Bittersweet finish for CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar

Máximo Quiles crossed the finish line in twelfth position after fighting for the podium and Dennis Foggia finished nineteenth

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team was unable to finish the Catalan Grand Prix as they had hoped. Máximo Quiles had to settle for twelfth place after occupying podium positions for much of the race. His teammate Dennis Foggia did not feel comfortable and crossed the finish line in nineteenth place. The Moto3 victory went to Ángel Piqueras, who overtook José Antonio Rueda on the last lap. The category leader finished second, while Taiyo Furusato was third.

Máximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia had to fight their way back from the start, having started from the third and fourth rows. The Spanish rider was already fourth by the second corner and quickly moved into podium contention. Quiles climbed to second place and tried to catch the leader, finding a comfortable pace to stay among the frontrunners and look for the right moment to attack. Halfway through the race, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider remained in the top three, battling with other rivals for the podium positions. With six laps to go, the Moto3 rookie found himself surrounded by the other riders and was unable to stop his bike in the first corner due to the slipstream, causing him to drop to fourteenth position. Faced with this new situation, Quiles tried to make up as much ground as possible and crossed the finish line in twelfth place. This result allowed him to score important points in the standings to remain in third position and continue to be the best rookie in the category. His teammate Dennis Foggia was confident of completing a good race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Italian lost positions in the early laps, which complicated his initial race strategy. The lack of grip made riding difficult, and Foggia focused on reaching the points positions as soon as possible. However, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider was unable to achieve this and finally finished nineteenth.

12th Máximo Quiles (+5.005): “I'm disappointed with the result of the race. I was in the front, but the group caught up with me in the slipstream, and I couldn't brake in the correct spot. I lost positions and didn't have time to catch up again. We could have been on the podium and fought for the victory, but it wasn't to be. We have to think about the next race in Misano and keep working.”

19th Dennis Foggia (+19.505): “It wasn't a good race and I was expecting a completely different situation today. I didn't feel comfortable at any point. I didn't have any grip going through the corners and that made me lose time. We have to analyse what happened, but we have to turn the page and focus 100% on the race at Misano, as we're racing at home."
