GERMAN GP

Best Friday of the year for Yamanaka

The Japanese rider has finished fifth at the start of the German Grand Prix. Alonso has done his job in the first practice session and has ended up eleventh

The German Grand Prix has kicked off with Ayumu Sasaki as the fastest rider of the day. The Japanese has beaten the track record by twenty-nine thousandths of a second in a dry morning practice. Sasaki has stopped the clock in 1:25.840, a lap time that no one has been able to improve in the afternoon due to the rain that has started just before the practice. Deniz Oncü and Jaume Masià have finished behind the Japanese rider, two and five tenths of a second off Sasaki's time. World Championship leader, Daniel Holgado, has started the German Grand Prix in sixth position, one second off the fastest rider.

Ryusei Yamanaka has completed his best Friday of the year by finishing the first practice session in the top five. Yamanaka and his Gaviota GASGAS Aspar teammate David Alonso have closed the first day in the provisional Q2 positions. The Japanese rider has ended the morning practice in fifth position, one second off the fastest time. Alonso has completed the first free practice in eleventh place and has taken advantage of the rain to keep gaining experience in this kind of conditions. Tomorrow, the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders will once again be looking at the weather to fight for a direct entry into Q2 and a good grid position.

5th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:26.841 (+1.001): “It has been my best Friday of the season. I have had good feelings in the first free practice. I have been running on my own, I have kept a good pace and I have got a good lap. I would have liked to ride in the dry in the afternoon, because I was going to try a few things. However, it's also good to try the Moto3 bike in the rain to get some experience.”

11th David Alonso 1:27.299 (+1.459): “Today we have had dry and wet practices, and both have gone well. I have started with good feelings in the first free practice. I have been able to complete some laps on my own and, on the new tyres, I have set a good lap time, which has placed me eleventh, in provisional Q2 positions. In the afternoon I wanted to improve some things, but the rain has changed our plans. I have taken advantage of the rain to get a good feeling in the wet and we have finished close to the fastest riders. If the race is in the wet, we know that we can perform well.”
