The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider scores 25 more points in San Marino and moves into the top 5 in the standings
The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider has given a masterclass on the San Marino track and has taken his second victory in a row, his third in the last four races. The Colombian has stayed in the front group throughout a race that has been led by Jaume Masià at the beginning and Deniz Öncü at the end. However, like in Barcelona, Alonso has saved his best trick for the last lap and, with a double overtake, he has taken the first position and has achieved the victory. With these 25 points, the Colombian moves up to fifth in the standings, just nine points off the top 3 in his first year in the category. David Alonso keeps growing and in the San Marino Grand Prix has shown that he is here to fight with the best.
With Jaume Masià taking the second place and Deniz Öncü finishing third, the World Championship standings are getting tighter and tighter. Dani Holgado remains at the top, but after another Grand Prix without scoring points, he has seen how his advantage over Ayumu Sasaki is now only 4 points, while Masià and Öncü are 12 and 17 behind him.
Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider Ryusei Yamanaka has finished the San Marino Grand Prix in fourteenth position. The Japanese rider has scored two more points for the standings in a day in which he has not had the best feeling on the bike. The high pace of the race has surprised Yamanaka and has forced him to fight in the third group, where there were riders like Dani Holgado or Iván Ortolá. The Japanese has not had his best weekend in Misano, but he is ready to keep improving in the flyaway races.
Winner David Alonso: “It's incredible to get a victory in San Marino because I was looking forward to redeem myself here. I knew I was strong this weekend, but the race has been very fast. At the beginning I have struggled to stay close to Deniz Öncü and Jaume Masià, but in the last corners I have been clever and I have been able to overtake them. I have tried to anticipate their movements, I have seen that at the end they could go out the line and I have prepared myself to overtake them.”
14th Ryusei Yamanaka (+10.846): “It has been a difficult race because the pace has been really fast. I have also suffered a lot in the first two corners. It has not been my best weekend, but we are ready to face the flyaway races.”
