Alonso to start from third row in Motegi

The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider will begin from ninth place in his first Japanese Grand Prix appearance. Ryusei Yamanaka will start from twelfth

Jaume Masià continues with his great shape and today has achieved his fifth pole position of the year, the third in a row. Until this moment, the Spanish rider had the same number of pole positions as Ayumu Sasaki, but after setting the fastest time at Motegi, Masià has become the rider who has taken the first position on the grid more times than any other rider this season. The Spanish had already given a hint of his great moment in the last practice session, in which he has beaten the track record by more than three tenths. Masià feels perfect with the bike and is the favourite to win the Japanese Grand Prix. Behind the co-leader of the category, tied on points with Dani Holgado, will start Deniz Öncü and Matteo Bertelle, who repeats on the front row for the second weekend in a row. Dani Holgado and Ayumu Sasaki will start from the second and third row, respectively. Both riders will try to make a good start to be able to follow Masià and fight for a win that will decide the new Moto3 leader.

Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso will start the Japanese Grand Prix from the third row. The Colombian will begin from ninth, while his teammate Ryusei Yamanaka will start from twelfth place. Both riders have competed together in Q2 for the third time this season, but after a difficult qualifying session, they will have to move up from the third and fourth row of the grid to fight with the front group. The Colombian and the Japanese had arrived to the qualifying session strongly after closing the combined practices in fifth and eighth position. Tomorrow, the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders will try to get back to the good feeling they had in practice to climb places and fight with the strongest riders.

9th David Alonso 1:56.928 (+0.597): “We have made it straight into Q2 and tomorrow we will start from ninth. In the qualifying I have had to follow some references to get my time. We have to improve in some points of the circuit, especially in the third sector. Tomorrow we will try it in the race and see what happens.”

12th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:57.121 (+0.790): “I'm happy with today's work. We have improved the set-up of the bike and also my riding. I expected a better lap time in the qualifying session, but it has not been possible. I have ridden on my own and the pace has been good. I'm quite confident to do a good race tomorrow.”
