EMILIA ROMAGNA GP

Alonso starts two tenths off the fastest in Misano

The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has finished in eighth position, while his teammate Joel Esteban has been twenty-first

Two weeks after the San Marino GP, Moto3 is back at the Misano World Circuit – Marco Simoncelli to contest the Emilia – Romagna GP, a GP that has started on a wet track. The overnight rain has meant that the first practice session in Misano has been carried out in wet conditions, so the times have been far from those achieved here two weeks ago. In the wet, the fastest rider has been the winner of the last race, Ángel Piqueras, who has set a time of 1:52.819. The Spanish has finished just ahead of CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider David Alonso, who has ended two tenths off his time. As the day has gone by, the track has dried out, allowing the riders to put on dry tyres in the afternoon session. On dry tyres, Alonso has been strong from the start and, on his sixth lap, he has set a time of 1:41:455, which has put him in first place. With twelve minutes to go, Jacob Roulstone has crashed and that has caused Race Direction to stop the session in order to remove the bike and clean the track. When the session has been resumed, Adrián Fernández has been able to climb to the first position after completing a lap in 1:41.071, a time that has been enough to finish the day as the fastest rider. The Spanish has ended just one tenth ahead of both Dani Holgado, who has been second, and Ángel Piqueras, who has finished third. Alonso has improved his time to 1:41.315, but he has only been able to conclude in eighth position, two tenths off Fernández.

His teammate Joel Esteban has started the Emilia - Romagna GP with a good feeling. The rookie has been really competitive in the morning session on the wet, he has always been among the fastest and, in the end, he has finished with the fifth best time. However, in the afternoon, with the track already dry, the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider has not felt so comfortable on the bike. The Spanish has ended in twenty-first position, a result that he needs to improve tomorrow to get straight into Q2.

8th David Alonso 1:41.315 (+0.244): “Repeating on a track means that everything is much tighter. Today we have already seen it and, as the weekend goes on, it will get tighter. After watching the race from two weeks ago, we saw that I could improve in the third sector. Also, it had been a long time without riding in group and today, in order to continue improving, I have gone out with the group to see the other riders’ lines.”

21st Joel Esteban 1:42.578 (+1.507): “In the first session, on a wet track, I have felt really good. I have recovered the good feeling with the bike. In the second practice, the track was already dry. I have suffered quite a bit with the front of the bike, especially in braking. We have made some changes and I have felt much better, with more confidence. We are going to continue working to find what we are missing and to take another step forward.”
