The Colombian rider finishes sixteenth after completing his first laps in Great Britain. Ryusei Yamanaka ends the first day twentieth
Moto3 riders have returned to the track after the summer break with the first practice sessions at Silverstone. Jaume Masià has come back to the action where he left off at Assen, a track where he dominated the first practice sessions and took his first win of the season. The Spanish rider has set the fastest time of the day, a 2:11.403 that only Tatsuki Suzuki and Diogo Moreira have been able to get close to. The Japanese and the Brazilian have ended one and four tenths of a second off Masià's time. The rest of the main contenders for the title have finished behind, with Iván Ortolá sixth, Deniz Öncü seventh, Ayumu Sasaki ninth and, a little further back, the World Championship leader, Dani Holgado, who has closed the provisional Q2 positions with a fourteenth place.
Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso has arrived from the summer break ready to give his all in the British Grand Prix. The young Colombian, who has completed his first laps at Silverstone today, has finished the first practice session in the top 10. However, in the afternoon, Alonso has lapped on his own and has finished sixteenth, just two tenths off the provisional Q2 positions. His Gaviota GASGAS Aspar teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has started the British Grand Prix from twentieth position. The Japanese rider, who has suffered an incident in the first session, has improved his time in the afternoon by more than a second, but he will have to fight tomorrow in the last practice in order to qualify directly for Q2 and get a good grid position.
16th David Alonso 2:13.221 (+1.818): “It has been a positive first day. As it is a new circuit, we have had to complete many laps. In the first session, with a reference, I have ridden quite fast. In the afternoon, I have tried to run on my own and I have not been able to finish in provisional Q2 positions. We will keep an eye on tomorrow's weather to choose our strategy.”
20th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:13.650 (+2.247): “The first day at Silverstone has been difficult. I have crashed in the middle of the first practice and I haven't had good feelings. Also, the front of the bike has bent a little bit. In the second session we have improved the set-up of the bike, but it has not been enough. The positive thing about today is that we know where we need to improve. I like this track, I know I can go fast and we'll try to do it better tomorrow.”
