Alonso learns fast in Australia

The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider closes the first practice sessions at Phillip Island in thirteenth place, within the positions that give provisional access to Q2

David Muñoz has kicked off the Australian Grand Prix as the fastest rider in Moto3. The Spanish has set a time of 1:36.791 and has finished Friday's practice sessions as the strongest rider for the first time this season. Muñoz has arrived with confidence after his podium in Mandalika and has shown that he is a candidate for victory this weekend. On a day in which Phillip Island has received the smaller class riders with good weather conditions, Stefano Nepa and Diogo Moreira have completed the top 3. Tomorrow these conditions could change and make more difficult to set a good lap time, so the fourth position of Ayumu Sasaki, the sixth of Jaume Masià and the tenth of Dani Holgado could guarantee them direct access to Q2.

The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso learns fast and has finished his first day in Australia within the provisional Q2 positions. The Colombian has had a mechanical problem in the first practice session and in the afternoon he was 20th before closing a last lap with which Alonso has been able to solve the situation and has ended thirteenth. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has not had the same luck and has closed the day in twenty-first place. The Japanese rider had started among the strongest, but despite improving his lap time in the afternoon, he has finished less than three tenths off the top fourteen. Yamanaka has worked well on his race pace and tomorrow he will try to get a better time to qualify for Q2, an objective that will depend on the conditions he will find in the last practice session.

13th David Alonso 1:37.916 (+1.125): “This track has surprised me, it's very different from the others. It's a very fast circuit and it has some bumps. At the beginning I didn't know how to understand it, but in the afternoon we have been able to complete more laps and we have understood it better. We have finished inside the provisional Q2 positions, but I need more time to adapt myself to the speed of the track.”

21st Ryusei Yamanaka 1:38.210 (+1.419): “It was not easy to get a good time today. I have had a lot of chattering on the bike. I'm happy because I have worked well on my pace. Tomorrow we will try to make a good lap time and get into Q2.”
