Alonso ends 2024 with flying colours

The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider has become the rider with the most wins in a category in a year after scoring his fourteenth victory

CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider David Alonso wanted to say goodbye to Moto3 on a high note and that is what he has done. The world champion has won at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya to put the finishing touch to a record-breaking year in the lightweight category. With this win, the Colombian has achieved his fourteenth victory of the season and has broken a new record: he is the only rider in history to have won fourteen races in a single season in a single category.

Alonso has started from pole and, although he has maintained first position at the start, he has taken it easy in the first laps, running in eighth place. The CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider has always remained in the first group, which has been made up of up to eighteen riders. As the laps has gone by, Alonso has gradually regained positions until he has arrived in the fight for the podium places. With two laps to go, the Colombian has overtaken Dani Holgado and Adrián Fernández to take the lead and claim his seventh consecutive victory. Behind him, Holgado, his future Moto2 teammate, has crossed the finish line and has become world runner-up, while Ángel Piqueras has completed the podium.

Marcos Uriarte has finished his first race with the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team in twenty-fifth position. The Spanish rider, who has started from twenty-first place, has been very strong in the first laps, has regained positions at the start and has fought to lead the chasing group. However, halfway through the race, he has made a mistake that has relegated him to last place. From that moment on, Uriarte has tried to recover until he has crossed the finish line in twenty-fifth position.

Valencia and its citizens are experiencing one of the most challenging moments in recent history. The surrounding areas of the city are facing a severe climate emergency due to intense rainfall and flash floods. Thousands of families have lost their homes, businesses, and access to basic services like drinking water, electricity, and safe shelter. At Aspar Team, in collaboration with GoFundMe, we have launched this campaign to support those affected, providing immediate aid and hope to those most in need. Every donation is backed by our guarantee, ensuring that funds go directly to those impacted by this crisis.

WIN David Alonso: “I had a lot of pressure this weekend, but it has been good to stay focused. I wanted to enjoy my last race in Moto3. I have taken it easy at the start and, when I have seen the opportunity, I have given my all to win. Now it's time to start a new stage. It will be good to have Dani Holgado by my side in the garage. We will have fun. We will have to think about improving race by race, little by little, because it will be a season of learning. Everything that comes will be good, but it will be a year more like 2023, I will have less pressure.”

25th Marcos Uriarte (+38.187): “I have begun really strong; I have made a great start. I could keep up with the first group, but the rider in front of me had to complete a long lap penalty, I did not expect it and, to avoid crashing into him, I have gone wide. That has ruined my race. It has been a shame because I had a good pace.”
