The Colombian has moved into the top 10, while Ryusei Yamanaka will start the Italian Grand Prix from fourteenth position
Deniz Oncü has been again the fastest in Mugello, taking his second pole position of the season. The Turkish rider, who has led all the sessions so far, has worked all weekend on his own and has not needed any slipstreaming to set his time. Ayumu Sasaki and the World Championship leader, Daniel Holgado, will start behind Oncü from the first row. The Spanish rider will try to gain some distance from his title rivals, Diogo Moreira and Iván Ortolá, who have been penalised for irresponsible riding. Despite having the fourth and tenth fastest times, Moreira and Ortolá will start the race from the back of the grid. Other riders like Xavier Artigas, Stefano Nepa and Joel Kelso, who has set the second fastest time in qualifying, will also have to serve the same penalty.
Valresa GASGAS Aspar rider David Alonso will start the Italian Grand Prix from tenth position. The Colombian has taken advantage of the last practice to improve his lap time of yesterday by more than a second and access directly to Q2. In qualifying, he has not been able to set a good time on new tyres and has finished sixteenth. However, Alonso has benefited from the penalties to other riders and will lead the fourth row. His Valresa GASGAS Aspar teammate Ryusei Yamanaka will start from fourteenth. The Japanese rider has competed in Q1, where he has dropped out of the top four on the penultimate lap. Yamanaka has finished two tenths of a second away from fighting for a better grid position, but as his teammate, he will move up seven places to start from the fifth row.
10th David Alonso 1:57.518: “It was a positive day. We took advantage of the last practice session to run on our own and get a good lap with a slipstream. It was important to qualify directly to Q2 because in the last races we didn't have a good grid position. However, the qualifying was not good. We started the session on the used tyre, but when we put on the new one, I had a small mistake. However, we are ready for tomorrow's race.”
14th Ryusei Yamanaka 1:57.665: “The qualifying practice was tough. It's always more difficult to go through Q1 because one wrong move can put you out. I didn't make any mistakes today, but I couldn't set a good lap. I was doing a good time, but I exceeded the track limits and my lap was cancelled. It's difficult to get a good time on this track riding alone. I still have to improve in the second and third sectors. We expect a big group in the race, so we will try to come back.”
