The first triple-header of the season stops this week at Sachsenring, where the Gaviota GASGAS Aspar riders aim to continue their progress
The Moto3 riders travel to Germany for the seventh Grand Prix of the season. Dani Holgado arrives as the outstanding leader of the category after taking his third win of the year last weekend at the Italian Grand Prix. The Spanish rider started these three consecutive races with an advantage of 21 points over his main rivals, and after his victory, he has increased that gap to 35 points over Jaume Masià and 41 points over Iván Ortolá. In contrast to Mugello, Sachsenring is a track which makes slipstreaming less important and makes it possible to see races with smaller groups as in 2022, when GASGAS Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara managed to escape and win with a difference of four seconds.
The Gaviota GASGAS Aspar does not rest and this weekend returns to racing, on this occasion in Sachsenring, where last year Izan Guevara won and Sergio Garcia took a podium after finishing third. For David Alonso it will be the first Moto3 experience in Germany, although it will not be his debut at the German track, where he competed and won in 2021, when he was in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. The Colombian rider is currently the best rookie in the category and is just eight points off the top five in the overall standings after finishing fourth in Italy, where he battled with the strongest riders in the category. This weekend, Alonso will try to work on his own to be well prepared for the race. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka comes back to another of his favourite tracks. Last year he started from the second row, but was unable to finish the race due to a technical problem with his bike. The Japanese rider looks forward to better luck this weekend and to be able to fight with the front group.
David Alonso: “Sachsenring is a good track to ride alone because it doesn't have a long straight. We will try to be in the top 10 in all the practice sessions to be able to fight and enjoy the race. We haven't had time to rest, but we have to take advantage of the fact that we've had already one race last week and it was quite good.”
Ryusei Yamanaka: “I'm confident of getting a good result at Sachsenring, it's a circuit I like a lot. I have always felt comfortable when I have ridden there. Last season I couldn't finish the race because my bike stopped. We'll give our best from the first day and we'll see what happens.”
