Alonso and the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar lead Moto3 before the seventh round

The Colombian rider is the reference of the lightweight category and he will fight in Mugello to increase his 14-point advantage in the standings

With almost no time to rest after the Catalan Grand Prix, the Moto3 category heads to Mugello to compete in the Italian GP, the seventh round of the season. David Alonso arrives there leading the lightweight category after his victory in Barcelona, his fourth win of the season in just six races. In Italy, the young Colombian will fight to achieve his third consecutive victory and to increase his 14-points lead in the standings, in a circuit where last year he was one tenth off the podium after fighting with a leading group that included Dani Holgado, Deniz Öncü and Ayumu Sasaki. Only Holgado remains in the category from that podium, but together with Alonso he will have strong rivals for victory on a track whose characteristics historically made for races in large groups, something that has been broken in the last two seasons, with groups of four or five riders fighting for the final slipstream on the long Mugello straight to compete for victory.

CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider Joel Esteban has in Italy a new opportunity to score points. The young Spanish has never competed at Mugello, but he is strong after his last performances in the category since the World Championship landed in Europe and aspires to be able to show his potential on the Italian track. Esteban will work to adapt as quickly as possible to the peculiarities of Mugello and will fight to be the best rookie. After six races, the CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team rider is eleventh in the standings, just two points behind ninth place.

David Alonso: “We arrive in Italy on the lead, but our way of approaching the race does not change. We must continue working as we have done until now. Mugello is a circuit that has many straights and many long corners. We will have to understand how the used tyre behaves and prepare well for the end of the race. It is a challenge for us, because last year I had a good race fighting in the front group, but there are aspects that we will have to improve.”

Joel Esteban: “Mugello is a circuit that I do not know. I will have to watch races and practices videos from other seasons to prepare for the GP. I think we can do well, but I have to work hard to try to fight for the front positions.”
