The GASGAS Aspar Team rider has completed the first day of practice in seventh position. Ryusei Yamanaka has finished 25th
Under the floodlights of the Losail circuit, Jaume Masià has been the fastest rider on the first day of practice. The Spanish, who this weekend has his first, but not easy, match ball, has set a time of 2:06.794, five and six tenths faster than the laps of Romano Fenati and Collin Veijer, who have completed the first top 3. The Moto3 leader has hit first and has shown that he is ready to close the championship at the Qatar Grand Prix. His main rival, Ayumu Sasaki, has finished the day in eighth position. The Japanese rider has suffered an incident in the first session and, although he has been able to improve in the afternoon, he has ended up more than a second off Masià's time. With these results in the race, the Spanish rider would be proclaimed world champion. However, Sasaki still has margin to improve and tomorrow he will try to make progress in order to get a good grid position to fight for the win on Sunday.
GASGAS Aspar Team rider David Alonso has quickly adapted to the Qatar night and has closed the first day of practice in seventh place. The Colombian, who has finished a second off the fastest time, has had a good feeling in his debut at Losail, but he still has margin to improve to fight for ambitious goals this weekend. His teammate Ryusei Yamanaka has had a difficult day in Qatar. In the afternoon, the Japanese rider has been able to improve his time from the first practice by more than two seconds on a track with more grip, but he has not felt completely comfortable on the bike. Yamanaka has closed the day with a time of 2:09.344, which has not allowed him to go further than twenty-fifth position, but tomorrow he will have a new chance to get a better time and go directly to Q2.
7th David Alonso 2:07.795 (+1.001): “It has been a good first day in Qatar. The track conditions have changed a lot between the first and the second practice. In the morning the circuit was a bit dirty, so I tried to ride carefully and save my best laps for the second practice. In the afternoon I have felt comfortable from the beginning and we have finished the day in provisional Q2 positions.”
25th Ryusei Yamanaka 2:09.344 (+2.550): “In the afternoon the track conditions have improved and, although I have got a better lap time, I haven't felt completely comfortable on the bike. The second practice has been difficult and I don't understand why I have had a better feeling in the first session. Tomorrow we have another chance and we will be prepared for it.”
