Ups and downs on a difficult Saturday for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team

Dani Holgado and David Alonso completed a difficult qualifying session due to the rain and will start tomorrow's race from the fifth and sixth rows of the grid respectively

Dani Holgado and David Alonso will start the German Grand Prix race from fifteenth and seventeenth place on the grid. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders faced a difficult Saturday despite a great start to the day. The rain that fell early in the morning presented a very different scenario to the previous day, when Holgado and Alonso secured direct passage to Q2. The Moto2 rookies were two of the standout riders in this morning's free practice. The session took place in wet conditions, although the track dried out as the minutes passed. This allowed both riders to improve their lap times lap after lap. On the last lap, Holgado took second place in the standings, while his teammate Alonso was fourth. This result gave the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team duo an extra boost of confidence to tackle the afternoon session with greater motivation. In Q2, there was more water on the track and the Spaniard and Colombian had greater difficulty repeating their performance. Holgado and Alonso did not achieve the results they had hoped for, given their good feelings in the morning, but they made the most of the timed session to gain experience in these conditions. With a time of 1:37.114, Holgado will start the race from fifteenth position, while Alonso was seventeenth with a time of 1:38.495.

On this occasion, former Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon took pole position at Sachsenring despite suffering a heavy crash in the morning. Second and third place were decided by 5 thousandths of a second between Barry Baltus, second, and Tony Arbolino, third. The main contenders for the title in the intermediate category will have to fight their way up the field: Aron Canet was twelfth, while leader Manu González could only manage sixteenth fastest time.

15th Dani Holgado 1:37.114 (+3.627): “It was a good day up until qualifying. In the morning we were competitive and fast, but in the afternoon it rained a lot more and our feelings changed. It was another learning day, that ended with a result we didn't want because we could have aspired to a second or third row position. We'll see the weather forecast for tomorrow and we will try to adapt as quickly as possible to have a great race.”

17º David Alonso 1:38.495 (+5.008): "In the morning the track wasn't completely wet, but it dried out eventually, and we had a good feeling: I could play with the bike. In qualifying, it was the opposite: there was a lot of water and I couldn't do much, neither lean nor accelerate. I felt like I had no grip and it was very difficult to ride. I tried to stay on the track and to adapt my position, but I couldn't do any better."
