The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider has finished tenth and his team-mate, Jake Dixon, eleventh
Joe Roberts has been the fastest rider on the first day of practice in the Spanish Grand Prix. The American rider has set a time of 1:40.664 in the afternoon session, just two tenths of a second quicker than Fermín Aldeguer and World Championship leader Sergio García, who have completed the top three. All this in a practice session in which one of the favourites, Aron Canet, has suffered a crash and has broken his ankle, so he has been declared unfit for the rest of the weekend. In the morning, Alonso López has set the benchmark with a time of 1:40.797, followed by Thailand's Somkiat Chantra and Manu González, while the World Championship leader has just managed to finish eighth.
The CFMOTO Aspar Team has started the Spanish Grand Prix with both riders in the top eleven, a result that would take both directly into Q2, something that could be key as there’s some rain forecast until tomorrow midday. Izan Guevara has completed a positive first day in Jerez: in the morning session he has finished eleventh, five tenths off the best time, and in the afternoon he has finished tenth, six tenths off. His teammate Jake Dixon has ended the first day at the Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto just off the top 10. The British has improved his time by three tenths from the morning to the afternoon session and is confident of continuing his progress over the weekend.
10th Izan Guevara (+0.691): "I am happy with the first day in Jerez, we are back where we deserve to be. It has been a tough start to the year, but little by little we are making progress. We are provisionally in Q2, which is important because tomorrow there is rain forecast for the last practice session."
11th Jake Dixon (+0.765): "Today has been a day of testing for me, trying to get a better understanding of the bike. I have done a lot of laps with qualifying and the race in mind. We are not yet where we would like to be, but I know we can get there. We are working in the right direction and I am sure we can make a step forward."
