The CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider is in provisional Q2 positions, while Izan Guevara has only managed to end eighteenth on a day in which he has crashed
The first day in the Red Bull Ring has had a clear dominator: Ai Ogura. The Japanese rider, who is second in the World Championship and announced yesterday that he will move to MotoGP in 2025, has been the fastest in the two practice sessions. In the morning, Ogura has set a time of 1:34.233, a register that, in the afternoon practice, he has been able to improve two tenths, up to 1:33.943. The Japanese rider has finished one tenth ahead of Aron Canet, who has been second, and two ahead of Manu González, who has been third. World Championship leader and Ogura's main rival, Sergio García, has ended in eighth position, more than half a second off the best time.
CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon has finished in tenth position. In the morning session, Dixon has been fifth, just three tenths off the leader. However, in the afternoon, the British has not felt comfortable and has been unable to improve his time. Despite this, Dixon is in provisional Q2 positions and knows what he must improve in order to take a step forward tomorrow. His teammate Izan Guevara has had a difficult first day in Austria. The Spanish has been competitive in the first session, until he has crashed at turn four. As a result, Guevara has been unable to complete the practice and has had to go to the medical centre. After a check-up, he has been declared fit by the medical team and has been able to return to the track in the second session. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has finished in eighteenth position and, although he is satisfied with his pace, he has not managed to complete a clean time attack. Tomorrow, Guevara hopes to improve his one-lap time to get into Q2.
10th Jake Dixon 1:34.613 (+0.670): “It has not been an ideal first day. We have taken the wrong way in the second session. We need to learn from these things, work to be better and take a step forward. Despite this, it has been a positive day. At least now we know which direction we have to follow.”
18th Izan Guevara 1:34.962 (+1.019): “This morning I have crashed at turn four when I was riding on the used tyre. The crash has been heavy, but fortunately I am fine. I have tried to give my all in the afternoon and, although the pace has been good, I have not managed to get a good time attack. Tomorrow, I hope to improve our time. I think we have a good chance of getting into Q2.”
