Dani Holgado and David Alonso will start the Moto2 race in seventh and eighth position respectively
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders ended the second day of the Hungarian Grand Prix on high note. Dani Holgado and David Alonso finished seventh and eighth respectively in this afternoon's timed practice after both securing direct entry into Q2 yesterday. The rookies in the category are feeling good and confident about completing a good race tomorrow, in which Diogo Moreira will start from pole position in a front row that was also decided by thousandths. The Brazilian will be accompanied by Zonta van den Goorbergh and Manu González, second and third respectively.
The second day at Balaton Park has allowed the riders in the intermediate category to continue working on adapting to the track and preparing for Sunday's race. Dani Holgado and David Alonso, who yesterday secured a spot in today’s Q2, took advantage of this morning's free practice to fine-tune their set-up and work on their race pace. Alonso took a big step forward from Friday by achieving an outstanding third position, while Holgado was eleventh, both with lower times than on Friday. In the afternoon, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders took to the track determined to set a good lap time that would allow them to start from the front positions, as the Hungarian circuit is one of the most difficult to overtake on due to the narrowness of the track. Dani Holgado went from strength to strength and made the most of his riding skills right up to the last moments. The Spaniard, aware of the importance of getting closer to the fastest riders in order to be in contention for the top positions in the race, put in a great lap that saw him climb to seventh position with a time of 1:40.655. On the other hand, his teammate David Alonso fought for the second row of the grid until the final minutes and posted times very similar to those in the morning. In the final minutes, he dropped to eighth position after setting his best time on the penultimate lap: 1:40.737, two tenths of a second off pole position.
7º Dani Holgado 1:40.655 (+0.275): “I'm happy with how we've improved compared to yesterday. We changed some things on the bike to find a better feeling and be a bit faster, and we achieved that. The pace in the morning was quite decent, and I set my best time on the last lap, which is positive for the race. In qualifying, I managed to stay calm and could get a position on the third row. It was important to start from the front because here it will be difficult to overtake. I will try to fight for the front positions and stay in the top five.”
8º David Alonso 1:40.737 (+0.357): “We struggle to be explosive from the start of qualifying. I need to figure out how to get a better lap. Tomorrow we'll start from the third row of the grid and we're feeling good, but a few mistakes and finding other riders on track prevented me from putting in a good, clean lap.”
