Dani Holgado and David Alonso aim for a strong final result to secure third place in the teams’ standings
The Valencia Grand Prix will mark the end of Dani Holgado and David Alonso's debut Moto2 season. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders have shown extraordinary progress in their first year in the intermediate category since the competition began almost nine months ago at the Thailand Grand Prix. Since then, both riders have reached the podium on several occasions, even achieving their first Moto2 victories. With four podium finishes, two of them wins, Holgado confirmed his status as Rookie of the Year in Portugal, a title he battled with his teammate David Alonso until almost the very end. The Colombian has achieved one victory and four other podium finishes, three of them consecutive in the last three races. These results have placed the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team in third position in the team standings, a remarkable achievement considering that neither rider had prior experience in such a demanding category as Moto2.
Now, the two arrive at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, a track that has seen Holgado develop, where he has won races, and where the Spaniard was crowned JuniorGP champion with the Aspar Team in 2021. Similarly, the local fans also witnessed Alonso's podium finish in 2023 during his only visit to the circuit as a world championship rider. Returning home two years later will be extra motivation for both riders, who want to continue adding to their successes to conclude a season that has exceeded all expectations. Holgado is guaranteed to finish the year in sixth place, but Alonso will have to fight with Celestino Vietti, Albert Arenas, and Senna Agius to secure seventh.
Diogo Moreira all but secured the Moto2 title with his victory in Portugal. The Brazilian rider further increased his lead in the standings over Manu González, who finished sixth in Portimao, and arrives in Valencia with a 24-point gap. Moreira will be champion if he finishes in the top fourteen, regardless of the Spaniard's result. González needs to win and for Moreira to finish no higher than fifteenth if he wants to snatch the title. Meanwhile, the bronze medal will be decided between three riders: Barry Baltus, who is third with 236 points; Aron Canet, fourth with 226 points, and Jake Dixon, fifth with 215.
Dani Holgado: “This weekend is my and the team’s home Grand Prix. I'm really looking forward to returning to Valencia since we couldn't come last year due to the floods. These are special days, my family will be there, and I'll have my fans cheering me on. I hope to have a good race in front of all my people, enjoy it, and finish the year in the best possible way with the team.”
David Alonso: “We've reached the final race of the year, and it's back in Valencia. It's a circuit like Portimao, in the sense that with the Moto2 bike, you have enough power that the straights practically disappear, leaving no time to rest. We'll have to be physically agile, and that will be good for our riding. It's the last race, so we must be focused because there are many events happening outside of the race itself. There could be more distractions, and that's when silly crashes and mistakes can happen. It's important to be in our own little bubble, to be fully present every time we get on the bike, and to enjoy the end of the season.”
