Strong start for Jake Dixon in Portugal

The British rider set the second fastest time on a day in which Jordi Torres began his adaptation to Moto2

The countdown has come to an end and the Moto2 World Championship has started with the first practices of the season in the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. Pedro Acosta was the fastest rider of the day with a time of 1:42.391. The rider from Murcia, one of the main candidates for the title in the intermediate category, has started the Portuguese Grand Prix where he left off in the pre-season tests, with Inde GASGAS Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon just a tenth off. Czech rider Filip Salac completed the top three positions in a day in which up to thirteen riders set their laps in the same second.

Inde GASGAS Aspar riders have started the season with positive results. Jake Dixon has been the fastest rider in the intermediate category in the first session of the season, with a time of 1:43.046. The British rider has improved his time in the afternoon, even though it was not enough to lead the session again, as Acosta was 98 thousandths of a second quicker. Dixon has confirmed that the positive feelings of the pre-season tests were not a mirage and he has started 2023 ready to fight for the title. On the other hand, Jordi Torres, who is replacing Izan Guevara in this Grand Prix, is back on the Moto2 bike nine years later. The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider has taken advantage of the first two practice sessions to get a good feeling for the start of the MotoE World Championship. The Spanish rider is happy with his return to the intermediate category and will continue working to understand better the bike in order to make further steps forward in this new challenge.

2nd Jake Dixon 1:42.489 (+0.098): "After last week's practice I wasn't expecting to be as quick as I was today. It's been a tough preseason, but the team has arrived very strong to this race. We need to keep working and make progress in some areas, but I am confident that we will do it. We will try to improve tomorrow so we can have a good qualifying and a solid race on Sunday."

20th Jordi Torres 1:45.476 (+3.085): "I'm really happy to try the Moto2 bike. The category has changed a lot since I left it. This circuit is very complex, but I think it's the perfect track to warm up and get on the race dynamics. I am understanding the bike better and better, but it is a question of keep working, riding more kilometres and trying to improve day by day. I've tried to set up the bike according to my pace, looking for a comfortable riding. In conclusion, we will continue to take steps forward and try to enjoy every moment on the track."
