The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has finished the first day in Japan with the fifth best time, three tenths off the fastest. His teammate Jake Dixon has ended eighth, four tenths off
The weather has been the main protagonist in the beginning of the Japanese GP. The Moto2 riders have started the two practice sessions on a dry track, but it has drizzled in both, which has affected their work plans. In mixed conditions, as the track was not completely wet, the fastest rider has been Filip Salac, who has led both practice sessions. The Czech has been very strong throughout the day and has set a new track record after completing a lap in 1:49.716. Salac has beaten by 182 thousandths the previous record, held by Somkiat Chantra since last season. The winner of the last race, Aron Canet, has finished second, 46 thousandths off Salac, and Marcos Ramírez has ended third, 95 thousandths off. Regarding the Moto2 leaders, Ai Ogura, who is competing in his home GP this weekend, has finished fourth, while his main rival, Sergio García, has only managed to be seventeenth.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team has had a very positive first day at the Japanese GP, with both riders in the top ten. Izan Guevara has been pretty competitive in Motegi from the first practice session and has completed his best Friday of the season. The Spanish has set the eighth best time in the morning session, six tenths off Salac's time. In the afternoon, he has been able to close that gap to three tenths, which has allowed him to climb to fifth position. His teammate Jake Dixon has finished with the eighth best time of the day. The British, who had ended twelfth in the morning, has managed to progress from one session to the next to finish four tenths off the best time, despite the fact that the conditions have not allowed him to ride as much as he had planned. Both Guevara and Dixon have finished the day in provisional Q2 positions, a result that could be enough to get them straight to that session, since the weather forecast for tomorrow's practice session is rain.
5th Izan Guevara 1:50.072 (+0.356): “I am happy with the first day. I have really enjoyed it. Finishing in fifth position is a great result. The bike is going very well. We have to keep working like this because we are on the right path. Tomorrow, we have to complete a good qualifying. At the moment, we are in provisional Q2 positions and that is the important thing.”
8th Jake Dixon 1:50.144 (+0.428): “Today we have had mixed conditions. In the first session it has started to rain, it was a bit damp and the grip was not good. In the second session it has started to rain again and we have lost a bit of time. I think the conditions have delayed our progress. Let's see tonight what we can do to improve tomorrow.”
