Dani Holgado and David Alonso arrive at the seventh round of the calendar aiming to fight for points again
The French Grand Prix, a major challenge for the intermediate class riders, gives way to the British Grand Prix, which, for the first time in its history, will be held in May. This year, the Silverstone event leaves its usual summer slot on the calendar to be held in spring, with the expected change in weather conditions being the first factor to consider. Manu González arrives at Silverstone as the leader of Moto2, having claimed back-to-back victories in the last two GPs. The Spanish rider has won half of the six races contested to date and holds a 19-point lead over his compatriot Aron Canet, second in the overall standings and third in France. Jake Dixon, another title favourite, remains in third place in the standings ahead of his home Grand Prix, a race where he took the top step of the podium with the CFMOTO Aspar Team in 2024.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team riders learned a great deal from the last Grand Prix. Despite the result (David Alonso finished eleventh and Dani Holgado, sixteenth), both riders agree that it was a weekend in which they continued to improve and set goals for the following rounds of their debut season in Moto2. David Alonso has finished on the podium on the only two occasions he has ever competed at Silverstone, both while still riding in Moto3 (he was first in 2023 and second in 2024). Now, in Moto2, he faces this new challenge eager to continue improving and take another step towards fighting for higher positions in the standings. His teammate Holgado also knows what it's like to stand on the podium at the British circuit and wants to leverage that experience to get the most out of it and once again compete with the fastest riders in the category. The Spaniard is twelfth in the overall standings and remains the leader in the race to become the rookie of the year, while David Alonso is seventeenth.
Dani Holgado: “I'm looking forward to more at Silverstone. I'm very motivated for this weekend after a difficult race in France. Even so, we were fighting for the top 10 in the opening laps after coming from behind and learned a lot. I'm aware that in Moto2 you can't let your guard down and you always must be looking for small details to make the difference.”
David Alonso: “In Silverstone, I want to focus on continuing to understand how to get the most out of the new tyre, because it's a little harder for me to feel comfortable when it's new than when it's used. Perhaps at Le Mans we lost a bit of time on the first day due to some mistakes. It's important that we make the most of every session and we are 100 percent focused from Friday onwards.”
