Dani Holgado and David Alonso have completed one of their best Saturdays in Moto2 and will start the race from fifth and sixth position respectively
Saturday ended on a very positive note for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders. Dani Holgado and David Alonso will occupy the second row of the grid, in fifth and sixth position respectively, after completing a hot qualifying session at MotorLand Aragon. The Moto2 rookies, who secured their Q2 sports yesterday, are proving very competitive on a weekend in which Diogo Moreira has taken his first pole position in the intermediate category. Barry Baltus and Deniz Öncü will complete the front row, while Moto2 leader Manu González will start from eighteenth after crashing in quaifying, which prevented him from completing a lap.
Dani Holgado and David Alonso have had to contend with high temperatures throughout the weekend at the Aragon circuit. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders took advantage of this morning's practice session to make a race simulation and understand the tyre degradation process, which will be a key factor in Sunday's big event. In the afternoon session, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team duo rode at a fast pace and both riders achieved their best times of the weekend. Dani Holgado showed great consistency throughout the practice sessions. The Spanish rider focused on securing the best possible position to tackle tomorrow's race with the best chances of success. Holgado, who completed an outstanding final lap, took fifth place with a time of 1:50.407. On the other side of the garage, David Alonso remained in the top 10 for much of the qualifying session and pushed until the end. With a time of 1:50.471, Alonso finished sixth, half a second off pole position, and tomorrow he will start his 50th Grand Prix (all of them with the Aspar Team) alongside Holgado from the second row.
5th Dani Holgado 1:50.407: “Today's goal, which was to be on the second or third row, has been more than achieved. We are behind riders who are going quite fast this weekend, so we will try to hook up with them in the first few laps to make the race more bearable. The goal for tomorrow is to try to stay in the top 5 group for as long as possible and try to stay with them until the end to fight for a good result. Above all, we want to continue learning and enjoying ourselves. Today was the day to do a race simulation. We were three laps short of completing the race distance, but between the eighth and twelfth laps, you could already see a drop of half a second. The important thing will not be to be fast, but to see who can manage the tyres better to have an extra edge in the final laps.”
6th David Alonso 1:50.471: “This circuit is fun with Moto2. I'm riding better and better with the big bike, I'm finding the style and ease that I was lacking until now. I want to continue in that direction, today I had a good qualifying session. We are working well, although there are times when I need to have more confidence in myself, but if we continue like this, little by little it will come. I've been working hard on the start, positioning myself differently on the bike so that it doesn't lift so much. Tomorrow we'll see if it's better to try to move up a few positions in the first few laps. It's a race we have to take calmly because tyre wear is going to be key: from lap ten onwards, it will be a totally different race.”
