Jake Dixon and Izan Guevara have finished fifth and tenth respectively, both in provisional Q2 positions
The weather has been the clear protagonist of the first day at the Australian GP, a first day in which Fermín Aldeguer has been the fastest rider. The first practice session of the intermediate category has been extended by 15 minutes from its usual duration so that the riders could test the dry tyres on the new Phillip Island asphalt in long runs. However, the rain has truncated the plans and the riders have only been able to ride with wet compounds. In these conditions, Aron Canet has set the benchmark, completing a lap in 1:41.620. Mario Aji has ended second and Alonso López third. The second session has also started with a wet track, but as the minutes have passed the asphalt has dried out, which has allowed the riders to put dry tyres at the end of the session and improve the times considerably. Aldeguer has ended on top after setting a time of 1:32.718, two tenths ahead of Canet and three ahead of López. To find the World Championship leader, Ai Ogura, it is necessary to go down to thirteenth position, while his main rival Sergio García has finished in seventh place.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team has had a positive start in the Australian GP, with both riders in the top ten. Jake Dixon and Izan Guevara have been competitive in both dry and wet conditions and have finished the day in provisional Q2 positions. Dixon has not had the best beginning, as he has lost the control of his bike during the first practice session and has suffered a severe blow to his calf. However, the British has been able to finish seventh, seven tenths off Canet’s best time. In the afternoon, despite the pain, he has managed to close the gap to the first rider to five tenths and thus climb to fifth position. His teammate Izan Guevara continues in great form. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has got off to a strong start in the Australian GP and has ended both practice sessions in the top 10. The Spanish rider has set the tenth best time of the day and has finished nine tenths off Aldeguer's time. Guevara is happy with the work done and the result achieved. Tomorrow, he hopes to make it straight to Q2 and thus accomplish his first objective of the weekend.
5th Jake Dixon 1:33.221 (+0.503): “I am a bit sore from the blow of this morning. I have almost highsided, I have landed back on the bike and I hit my calf. I have to work with the physio to be well tomorrow. It has not been an easy day because in the morning we have ridden in the wet and, in the afternoon, first in the dry and then in the wet. Overall, I am happy with how we have worked in both sessions, no matter how we have finished. I have focused on learning and improving. I have really enjoyed it.”
10th Izan Guevara 1:33.712 (+0.994): “Today we have ridden in both wet and dry conditions, although in dry conditions we have only been able to test in the last few minutes of the second session. I am happy, although the feelings are strange. We have finished in tenth position, provisionally in Q2. Tomorrow we will have to see if it rains or not. The goal will be to get straight into Q2.”
