Jake Dixon has finished fifth in the first practice sessions in Qatar. His teammate Izan Guevara has not been able to take advantage of the new tyres and has ended 27th
Fermín Aldeguer has kicked off the Qatar Grand Prix as he finished in Sepang, as the fastest rider in the category. The Spanish has dominated both sessions today and has set a lap time of 1:58.059, with which he has beaten the track record. The rider who has come closest to that time has been Aron Canet, who has ended one tenth off Aldeguer's time, while Sam Lowes, who has closed the first top 3 of the weekend, has finished more than two tenths off. Somkiat Chantra and GASGAS Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon, who are fighting alongside Aldeguer and Canet for third place in the overall standings, have closed the day more than three tenths behind Aldeguer's lap.
GASGAS Aspar Team riders have opened the weekend in Qatar with lights and shadows. Jake Dixon has ended the first day of practice in fifth position after riding on his own for most of the sessions. The British has done a good job for the race and will try to improve tomorrow to reach the fastest riders. His teammate Izan Guevara has not been able to set a good time due to a mechanical problem in the first free practice and a crash in the second. The Spanish couldn't complete a competitive lap on the new tyres and has ended the day 2.5 seconds off the fastest rider. Despite this, the current Moto3 World Champion knows that he has the speed and will try to show it tomorrow, although it will be difficult to improve the times in the last practice session due to the high temperatures that will be registered in the central part of the day.
5th Jake Dixon 1:58.434 (+0.375): “I think my time could be better. I have ridden on my own today and it will help us to prepare well the race. It has not been a bad day, but we have to keep working to reach the fastest riders. Tomorrow we will try to improve in the areas where we have struggled today and we will see what happens.”
27th Izan Guevara 2:00.579 (+2.520): “It has not been our best day. In the first practice we have started well, but we have not been able to ride with new tyres because of a mechanical problem. In the afternoon we have begun with that tyre and we were in provisional Q2 positions, but when we have put on another new tyre to set a fast lap, I have crashed. Tomorrow we will try to improve and, although the conditions will be more difficult in the last practice compared to this afternoon, we will fight to get into Q2. I feel fast and I want to keep improving.”
