The CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider retires from the race in Qatar after having set the second fastest lap and having been fourth at the start
The lack of grip in the rear has hurt CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider Izan Guevara's chances of finishing a great weekend in Qatar. The Spanish rider had been ninth in qualifying, completing his best Saturday since he’s competing in Moto2, and in the first corners he managed to get into the front positions. However, an incident with another rider forced him to lift the bike and lose positions. Despite this, the CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider continued to fight to reach eighth position on the fourth lap. From that moment on, the loss of grip in the rear has caused him to ride around four seconds slower per lap. Guevara has been losing positions until he has retired when he was twenty-second.
Izan Guevara (DNF): “It has been an incredible weekend, very positive, until the fourth lap of the race. I felt very good, yesterday in qualifying we got a good result and I saw myself with options to fight for the podium. I made a good start, I was fourth, but an incident with another rider forced me to lift the bike and lose positions. I have been climbing positions until I couldn't do it anymore, I lacked grip in the rear, and I started to lose positions. I had to manage the tyres until it reached a point where it was difficult, I couldn't turn the bike and I went into the pits. We will study what happened because it has been a great weekend until that fourth lap. I had the fastest lap of the race, but it's a shame to finish like this. In any case, I am happy because I have fought for the front positions, but now we turn the page, and we will continue in Portugal with the same energy.”
