The CFMOTO Asterius Aspar Team rider missed the first two rounds of the season through injury, but will be hoping to compete in his first race of the year
The riders in the intermediate category of the World Championship complete their only trip to the other side of the Atlantic this weekend, after the cancellation of the Argentina Grand Prix, to compete in the Grand Prix of the Americas. The Circuit of the Americas hosts the third round of the Moto2 World Championship this weekend, with Spanish rider Aron Canet, who took his first ever victory in the intermediate category in Portugal, arriving as the leader. His lead is very small: only eight points separate the top seven riders. Canet has just two points over second-placed Joe Roberts, who will be racing at home, and four points over Manu González. No clear favourites have yet emerged: no rider has repeated on the podium between Qatar and Portugal and now they all face a third round at a track where only Tony Arbolino knows what it is like to win in Moto2.
CFMOTO Asterius Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon will return to competition at the Grand Prix of the Americas. The British rider suffered a heavy crash in practice in Qatar which ruled him out of the opening race and, although he travelled to Portugal with the intention of racing, after testing his condition in Friday practice, in a joint decision with the team, his recovery was prioritised and Dixon did not complete the Grand Prix. Three weeks later, Dixon arrives in Austin with his batteries recharged and eager to get back on the bike.
On the other side of the garage, Izan Guevara faces the Grand Prix of the Americas with confidence. The Spanish rider took his first World Championship victory at this track in 2021, his debut year in Moto3, and he made his debut in Moto2 last season at this Grand Prix after missing the first two rounds due to injury. Austin is one of the favourite tracks for the CFMOTO Asterius Aspar Team rider, who is hoping to take a step forward this weekend to score his first points of the season.
Izan Guevara: "Austin is a circuit I like a lot. I got my first World Championship victory there in Moto3 and last year I rode my first race there in Moto2. I hope to be at the front all weekend, I feel strong and ready. We will work from the first moment to achieve our goal, which is to be in the leading group."
Jake Dixon: "I have spent the last few weeks recovering and rehabbing. Fortunately, I am getting better every day, but it is hard to know how I am really doing without getting on the bike. I am really looking forward to going to the United States and being able to ride in a race. For me, it will be the first race of the season, I will try to enjoy my return with the team and put the incident in Qatar behind me."
