Jake Dixon, fourth on the first day in Qatar

The rain affected the second practice session at Losail and the CFMOTO Inde Gaviota Aspar Team riders have only ridden in the first session of the day

The Moto2 season got underway with the Qatar Grand Prix on a day that has been conditioned by rain. In the first practice session, Fermín Aldeguer has been the fastest rider in the intermediate class with a time of 1:58.373, followed by Zonta van der Goorbergh and Celestino Vietti. CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon has finished fourth, just two tenths off the best time.

Izan Guevara has completed a very positive first session. The Spanish rider has finished with the ninth fastest time, just six tenths off Aldeguer, and is confident for the rest of the weekend. Although this first session doesn't count for the combined times that determine who participates in Q2 and who has to go through Q1, the times of these free practice session are the reference of the day, since in the afternoon the rain has conditioned the second practice and only four riders have been out on track. Tomorrow's final practice will be crucial to decide who will fight for pole position at the Losail circuit.

4th Jake Dixon 1:58.666 (+0.293): "The first free practice hasn’t gone too badly; we have been quite fast. In the afternoon, unfortunately, the rain has stopped the progress we were making. We need more time, so we will keep working tomorrow. I am sure we will find the right direction to make a step forward."

12+1 Izan Guevara 1:59.052 (+0.679): "It has been a positive day because we are improving a lot. I feel comfortable, we just need to be able to go faster in the third sector. It has been a pity we could not go out in the second session because it has started to rain. We have saved our energy for tomorrow."
