Holgado sweeps and triumphs

The CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team rider achieved his first Moto2 victory, leading the race from start to finish

CFMOTO Impulse Aspar rider Dani Holgado dominated the Catalan Grand Prix with an undisputed victory, leading the race from start to finish and even having time to wave to the crowd on his way to victory. Holgado's victory also marks the first time that the Aspar Team has won two consecutive races in Moto2, after David Alonso took the top spot on the podium in Hungary. Today's victory also marks the first time the team has won two consecutive Grand Prix races in the intermediate category since the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Dani Holgado had his best weekend since his debut in the intermediate category. The CFMOTO Impulse Aspar rider started the Moto2 race from pole position, ready to fight with the best from the start. After a great start in which he consolidated his first position from the first corner, Holgado maintained a good pace and, without making any mistakes, had already built up a lead of more than half a second over the second-placed rider by the time he crossed the finish line. Throughout the 21 laps of the race, Holgado managed his tyres and their wear well, waiting for the right moment to increase his speed and extend his lead to more than three seconds over Dixon. Meanwhile, his teammate David Alonso once again demonstrated his talent in a race that proved challenging for the Colombian. After being forced to start from 25th position due to a nine-place penalty for riding slowly during timed practice, he tried to find his own pace to move up the field. Alonso was able to turn the situation around and began to overtake rivals to take a well-deserved eighth place.

WIN Dani Holgado: “It's a great day, it's my first Moto2 victory. We all know it's a difficult category, but we already stood on the podium in Austria and now getting this victory means a lot. I didn't expect these results at the start of the season, but as we've been working with the team, we've seen that it could happen. Nobody knows how hard we work after a weekend to look for details that allow us to improve constantly, to arrive at the next circuit as prepared as possible. When you achieve it, like today, it brings out the pride and joy that we showed under the podium in the celebration.”

8th David Alonso (+8.790): “I had fun overtaking so many people. It was at the end of the race that I made up the most positions. We started from the back and the start wasn't the best because I could barely see the track, but I found spaces to escape the chaos. The first few laps were very good, although it was difficult to keep up with the riders in front of me on the corners with the new tyres. I was patient, and as the laps went by, I got better. It's a good result; I'm happy with how the weekend went.”
