The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider set the fourth fastest time on the first day at COTA
The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar started the third round of the season with Dani Holgado once again qualifying directly for Q2. The Spanish rider has ended every Friday inside the Q2 positions and has avoided Q1 for the third time in a row. On this occasion, the rain was another challenge for the Moto2 rider, who passed his first taste of wet conditions with flying colours. Holgado was just outside the top three and finished the day in fourth place, once again as the best rookie in the intermediate class. Ahead of him, Jake Dixon was the reference on track, followed by Tony Arbolino and Alonso López.
David Alonso had a good feeling in this morning's free practice despite the difficult track conditions. The reigning Moto3 world champion took another step forward in his adaptation to the category and worked to gain confidence also in the wet. In the afternoon session, the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider faced slightly different conditions, with the track with much less water and, after setting his best time on the penultimate lap, he finished in twenty-fifth place.
4th Dani Holgado 2:19.929 (+1.428): “I'm very happy, more than for the result, because I keep improving session after session, and that's the goal this year: to improve, learn and understand what I need. This is my third consecutive weekend in Q2, we are working very well and that will be rewarded. I hadn't felt fast in wet conditions for a long time. In the afternoon I improved in all aspects: in the braking, in corner speed, while changing direction... I've studied the movements of other riders and I'm understanding better what the bike needs. I feel very confident, I'm making few mistakes and that, when you're going fast, means you're doing things right.”
25th David Alonso 2:22.159 (+3.658): “Today was my first time on the wet with the Moto2 bike. In the morning the feeling was good, but towards the end of the session I had a bit of traffic and it spoilt my rhythm. In the afternoon, when there was very little water on the track, the feeling was different and it was difficult to enter the corner with a good lean angle. We will have to review the data for tomorrow.”
