VALENCIA GP

Holgado sets the pace at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider was the fastest on Friday after breaking the circuit record and will compete in Q2 tomorrow

The Valencia GP could not have started better for Dani Holgado and the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team. The rider, already confirmed as the best Moto2 rookie, was the fastest on the day and set a new record at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. The Spaniard will be able to fight for the top positions on the starting grid in front of the local fans on Saturday after leading the session with a tenth of a second advantage over Jake Dixon and Dani Muñoz, who were second and third respectively.

This morning's free practice was interrupted by a red flag after several crashes in the opening minutes. Track conditions, with wet patches between turns four and six, forced the intermediate category session to be delayed to ensure riders safety. Both Dani Holgado and David Alonso finished the morning session in the top 10, less than half a second off the fastest time. In the afternoon, track conditions improved considerably, allowing the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders to lower their times and fight for a place in Saturday's Q2. Dani Holgado went from strength to strength, gaining confidence and improving his morning times by almost a second. On his last lap, he took the lead, which also earned him a new record at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo with a time of 1:32.408. Holgado suffered a minor crash without consequences, but no rider was able to beat his time. In contrast, his teammate David Alonso had a difficult practice session. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider suffered a crash before completing the first half of the session, and although he was able to return to the track later, he was unable to improve on his previous time and finished twenty-first. The Colombian will have to go through Q1 in Valencia to be in contention for a good starting position in the last race of the year, but he is confident that he can take another step forward and return to the top of the standings.

1st Dani Holgado 1:32.408: “Both sessions were very positive. I was competitive from the start, especially in the afternoon. I had a small crash after setting the fastest lap, but it had no consequences. I braked very hard, went straight into the gravel and couldn't stay upright. I'm very happy, but we have to keep working, because you can't relax in Valencia and I'm sure everyone else will improve. I have speed, I have pretty good control over being fast on one lap, but now we have to focus on race pace, on being fast, but also consistent. Qualifying will be difficult, but we'll try to be in the first two rows.”

21st David Alonso 1:33.112 (+0.704): “We've completed the first day in Valencia. The Ricardo Tormo Circuit is fun with the Moto2 bike. I need to understand better how to ride more smoothly, because the riding style it requires is not the best for me. Tomorrow I want to focus on how to approach the corners and keep doing laps to understand the secret of this track. I didn't manage to find it today, but I'm sure we'll get there.”
