Holgado secures Q2 in Austria

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider clocked the ninth fastest time of the day, while his teammate David Alonso finished eighteenth due to a technical issue and will have to go through Q1 tomorrow

The Austrian Grand Prix kicked off on Friday for riders in the intermediate category. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team returned to competition after a three-week summer break, during which both Dani Holgado and David Alonso worked hard to stay in top condition. The Spanish rider secured direct entry into Q2 by finishing in the top 10 in this afternoon's session. The Colombian, however, will have to go through Q1 after being unable to improve his times due to an unexpected technical problem. Despite this, both riders ended Friday feeling very positive. The qualifying session was so close that the top four riders finished separated by thousandths. Moto2 leader Manu González was the fastest rider of the day, followed by his main rival in the title fight, Aron Canet. Iván Ortolá finished in third place, with Celestino Vietti fourth.

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team riders faced this first day in Austria in good conditions, both on the track and in terms of temperature. Alonso and Holgado completed their first laps of the Austrian circuit on their Moto2 bikes in search of good references. The rookies in the intermediate category improved their times, with David Alonso among the fastest and Holgado in the top 10. After this positive start, in the afternoon session, both riders took to the track with direct passage to Q2 in mind. Holgado went from strength to strength, taking firm steps and climbing positions in the standings. The Spaniard regained his rhythm on his return to competition and once again proved that he is one of the riders to watch in the fight for the top places on the grid. With a time of 1:33.595, he took ninth place on the timesheet and secured direct entry into tomorrow's Q2. His teammate David Alonso was not so lucky, as he was unable to complete all his planned laps after running out of fuel, losing some vital minutes in the fight for Q2 spots. Alonso finally finished eighteenth with a time of 1:33.894, just six tenths behind the leader and feeling good about the upcoming sessions.

9th Dani Holgado 1:33.595 (+0.305): “I'm very happy with how things went on this first day after the summer break. The team has done a good job and helped me to adapt quickly after these weeks, as the return is usually a bit complicated. We still need to improve a few details that I think will allow us to take a big step forward tomorrow. We will continue working this afternoon to see where we can improve, both in my riding and on the bike. I think this will allow us to be faster, and we will use the morning practice to do a race simulation and see where we are. I am very motivated for this weekend and for tomorrow's qualifying.”

18th David Alonso 1:33.894 (+0.604): “This morning I managed to put into practice everything I learned this summer. I was really looking forward to getting on the Moto2 bike, I missed riding it a lot. At first, I had the Moto3 references and I wasn't able to stop the bike properly, but once I got the right references, I really enjoyed it. In the afternoon we had a good pace, but when we were about to put on the new tyre we ran out of fuel.”
