The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider finished the Dutch Grand Prix in tenth position, while his teammate David Alonso was unable to finish after crashing in the early laps
The TT Circuit Assen hosted a historic day for Dutch racing on Sunday, celebrating the centenary of racing in the Netherlands. The fans, who broke attendance records, witnessed Diogo Moreira's first Moto2 victory. Aron Canet and Manu González finished second and third respectively, with the latter ending another Grand Prix as the leader in the standings. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team saw Dani Holgado return to the top 10 by finishing the race in tenth place. His teammate David Alonso, unfortunately, suffered a crash in the early laps, although the Colombian had his best Moto2 race start to date.
Holgado started a very physical race from the third row of the grid. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider, aware that Assen is one of the most technical venues on the calendar, sought his own pace to stay in the top 10 and not lose positions. The rookie in the intermediate category showed great consistency lap after lap and took advantage of every opportunity to continue learning from the more experienced riders until he crossed the finish line in tenth position. On the other hand, David Alonso started the tenth race of the season from the back of the grid. The Colombian made his best start to date in Moto2 and was able to quickly climb positions to get as close as possible to the points. Unfortunately, an early crash with only four laps completed prevented him from continuing to improve and gain experience in the category.
10th Dani Holgado (+11.720): “It was a pretty positive race for us because we fought until the end for the top 10. It was tough, long... this circuit is very physical with the Moto2 bike. I'm super happy with the overall performance this weekend. On Friday we started with some difficulties, but on Saturday we made great progress, and that's a good sign of the work the team is doing. I managed to fight for seventh position, being very consistent. We have to continue in this vein because we hadn't been in the top 10 for several races, so it's an extra motivation and it gives me more confidence to fight for the top positions in Germany. Thanks to the team for all its work, let's go for more!”
David Alonso (DNF): “I'm happy because it was my best start in Moto2 so far. In the first few corners, I found a lot of gaps and kept moving forward. I wasn't feeling comfortable, but I put myself in ‘race mode’ and said, ‘if the guys in front are pushing, so am I’. I was riding fast and taking the corners much better than on Friday or Saturday. Then came the crash. I lost the front, but I'm focusing on the positive. We'll take the opportunity to rest as much as possible because I'm not 100% physically and the German Grand Prix will be very demanding.”
