Holgado gives a riding masterclass at Motegi

The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider secured his second victory in the intermediate category, while David Alonso finished just 42 thousandths off the podium

Dani Holgado secured his second victory in the intermediate category, once again leading from the very start of the race. The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider is having a great end to the season, with four podium finishes in the last five races. The Spaniard had no rival at Motegi after overtaking Diogo Moreira on the first lap. Jake Dixon finished second, followed by Moreira in third. David Alonso just missed out on the podium, finishing fourth, just 42 thousandths behind the Brazilian.

The Moto2 race at the Japanese Grand Prix saw another impressive performance from rookie Dani Holgado. The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider started the race from the front row of the grid with a clear objective: to get into first position as quickly as possible. The Spaniard only needed one lap to achieve this and, from that moment on, he set his own pace to extend his lead over his rivals. Holgado managed to build up a lead of more than four seconds over his pursuers. Although in the final stages of the race this gap was reduced after some great management throughout the nineteen laps, he crossed the finish line in first place. The Power Electronics Aspar rider is achieving results that are far from those of a rookie: four podiums, two of them victories, and two pole positions place him sixth in the overall standings and already 19 points behind the top five. On the other hand, David Alonso completed one of his most consistent races of the season. The fellow rookie in the intermediate category accompanied his teammate on the front row of the grid and remained in the leading group. Despite losing a few places in the early laps, Alonso was able to maintain his pace to get as close as possible to the podium positions. On the last lap, the Colombian gave it his all and saw his third podium slip away by just 42 thousandths. This fourth place allows him to close the gap in the overall standings and he leaves Japan just three points away from entering the top 10.

Win Dani Holgado: “I'm super happy with the result. It was a very good race, I gave it my all and I didn't want to wait to get into first place. I knew I had a bit more from the start and I set my pace. I didn't expect to go so fast in the first few laps, I surprised myself, but I felt really good. It's been incredible: four podiums and four front rows in the last five races, I'm speechless. It's very exciting for me, I'm very proud of the work I'm doing with the team. There are five races left: let's enjoy them and continue working in this vein.”

4th David Alonso (+5.985): “I'm happy with the race because for the first time I got a good start and made it to the first corner without losing positions. I was lacking feeling with the bike, I didn't have much grip and it was difficult from the first lap. I focused on having a good race mentally. I tried not to lose the front group and, although there were points where I suffered a lot, I was able to recover and not fall too far behind to fight for the podium until the end. Today wasn't the day. I wanted to get as close to the podium as possible, but if I had pushed a little harder, I would have crashed because I was at the limit. I finished five seconds off the leader after 19 laps: if we continue with this consistency, we will be able to better understand the data and continue to improve.”
