The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider was fourteenth after qualifying directly into Q2 yesterday
The Moto2 class offered up a good fight for pole position at the Argentina Grand Prix on Saturday. Championship leader Manu González took the top spot on the grid for the second consecutive race. Jake Dixon and Marcos Ramírez were second and third respectively in a very close qualifying session. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team duo continue to make strides in their adaptation to the category and, despite the constantly changing track conditions, they set their best times of the weekend in their qualifying sessions. Dani Holgado took advantage of this morning's free practice to plan his strategy for Sunday's race. The Spaniard remains the best rookie in the category and he is feeling more and more comfortable on the Moto2 bike. In the afternoon qualifying, Holgado was in the top ten of the timesheets and closed the gap to the leading riders. In the end, he set the fourteenth fastest time of the qualifying session, half a second off the reference time.
David Alonso finished Saturday with a good taste in his mouth. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider continues to improve his feeling and learn from his rivals in each session. Alonso started the second free practice ready to polish details ahead of Q1. In the afternoon, the Colombian set his best time of the weekend, lapping under 1:42, and was provisional Q2 positions. Although he was just a tenth of a second off the cut-off, the Moto3 World Champion is very satisfied with the work he has done and will start tomorrow's race from 20th.
14th Dani Holgado 1:41.406: “I'm very happy with the way we finished the second day. In the morning we did a race simulation which went quite well. I had a great pace, it was consistent and I was able to keep it. In qualifying I also did a pretty good time which allowed me to be in the top 10 for a while. I lacked that last lap that I didn't quite get right, but when I'm looking for the limit I lack the confidence to be able to do it. We are working on it and little by little we are getting there. I'm very happy for the work we are doing and tomorrow we will enjoy it because we all deserve it.”
20th David Alonso 1:41.734: “The day went better. In the morning I managed to do 18 laps in a row to see what tyre we choose for the race. In the first part of that run I understood more things following other riders. Then, riding alone, I was able to apply what I learnt and I made a good step forward in terms of pace and fast lap times. In qualifying I lacked a bit of intensity in the first laps with the new tyre, but I managed to do a good time. The difference with Thailand is that here I had the speed and I felt competitive to fight for the top four positions. I made a few small mistakes, but tomorrow we will build on that in the race.”
