Holgado, best rookie in Thai GP qualifying

The CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider will start the race from the fifth row of the grid

The second day of the Thai Grand Prix has left good feelings for the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team. Dani Holgado and David Alonso continue to make firm steps forward in their debut in the intermediate category at a circuit where the extreme temperatures are conditioning the riding. Manu González, Celestino Vietti and Aron Canet will occupy the front row of the grid after the pole position was decided by thousandths of a second. Dani Holgado has been very consistent, lapping under 1:35 this morning and achieving his best time of the weekend. The Moto2 rider was very close to move into Q2 as the fastest rider in Q1. After that, in the the second qualifying he even fought for the top 10 of the starting grid in a session in which he set a time of 1:35.314. Tomorrow he will start his first race in Moto2 from fifteenth place.

David Alonso continues adapting and showing solid progress in a complicated circuit such as the Chang International Circuit. The current Moto3 world champion did not have the best feeling in the morning practice, although he took advantage of the free practice to continue fine-tuning his set-up for the qualifying session. In Q1, Alonso continued to improve to the point of achieving his best time of the weekend, 1:35.441. He will start the race from the ninth row, focused on continuing to learn and enjoy his debut in the intermediate category.

15th Dani Holgado 1:35.314: “It's been a very good day for me, it's the first Grand Prix and we are already in Q2. I'm very proud. We have improved seven tenths in a very complicated circuit. Today I'm going to sleep very satisfied with the work I've done and with what the team has done to explain to me how to improve. We still need to work, because when I want to look for the limit I always make a mistake. With the lap of Q1, I would be in second or third row. We have to learn but, even if I start from fifteenth, I'm very happy.  I'm still struggling, I don't have the confidence I had with the Moto3 and I don't know how far I can go. Tomorrow, the main goal is to enjoy and finish the race, because that's the best way to learn, watching the others.”

25th David Alonso 1:35.441: “In the first run of the morning there was a bit of confusion trying something new. It was a rookie mistake and we lost a little bit the line of work, but then in qualifying we improved on a personal level. Now I have to focus on the last part of the circuit and on how to get more potential out of the bike for tomorrow's race.”
