Holgado adds another top 10 at the start of the Italian Grand Prix

The Spanish rider finished Friday in seventh position, while his teammate David Alonso was seventeenth and will have to go through Q1

Dani Holgado had a great start to the Italian Grand Prix, which is being held this weekend at the iconic Mugello circuit. The CFMOTO European Privilege Aspar rider finished the day's practice in seventh position and secured a direct pass to tomorrow's Q2. However, his teammate David Alonso was unable to avoid having to go through Q1 after finishing seventeenth on a Friday in which Filip Salac set the pace in Moto2. Italian rider Celestino Vietti was second and Manu González third, both just a few thousandths of a second off the reference time.

This morning's free practice was a great opportunity for the CFMOTO European Privilege Aspar riders to begin adapting to the Italian circuit with the Moto2. Both riders performed well, with David Alonso in fifth position, despite not having fully recovered from his finger injury, and Dani Holgado in ninth. In the afternoon session, both worked to improve their times despite the high temperatures, which were also a key factor this weekend. The Spanish rider quickly improved on his morning time to secure a place among the top fourteen. Holgado, who continued to close the gap on the fastest riders, set his best time in the final laps: a 1:50.600 that put him in seventh place. David Alonso, meanwhile, decided to ride alone in the afternoon practice session to continue improving his feeling. The Moto3 world champion was unable to improve on his morning time and, although his 1:50.981 is only seven tenths of a second off the fastest, the tight classification has relegated him to seventeenth place.

7th Dani Holgado 1:50.600 (+0.392): “I'm very happy to have secured a direct pass to Q2. This morning I felt very good riding alone and taking references from other riders. In the afternoon I made some changes to my riding style because this circuit is very different from Moto3, especially in terms of braking and preparing well for corner entry. I also noticed more tyre wear on the front, so tomorrow in the race simulation we'll see if this compound can withstand the 19 laps, which is the race distance, and then we'll make a decision. Physically I feel good, although it's tough with these high temperatures.”

17th David Alonso 1:50.981 (+0.773): “My finger injury is better and it's not a big problem when riding. I feel some discomfort when holding the bike naturally, but I'm very happy with how things have progressed this week. I enjoyed riding at Mugello with the Moto2, I felt comfortable from the start. In the afternoon there were a lot of riders on the track, so I decided to try doing the lap on my own. I found it difficult to turn the bike properly and it was complicated. Physically I felt a bit tired as I hadn't trained this week, but tomorrow we'll try to get through to Q2.”
