Guevara smiles again in Australia

The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider gets his best result in the category after a race that Dixon has not been able to finish

Moto2 riders have had a chaotic race at Phillip Island that has ended with Tony Arbolino taking victory. The race has been suspended with thirteen laps to go due to difficult weather conditions and half of the points have been awarded out because two thirds of the race had not been completed. The Grand Prix began with Pedro Acosta crashing out on the sighting lap and starting from the back of the grid. On the other hand, Alonso López took the lead in one of the first corners, but he has ended up on the ground when he was trying to open a gap, something that has also happened to Sergio García. After these incidents, Tony Arbolino has taken the first position and has got an important distance over his pursuers. On the tenth lap, the strong wind has made the stewards to bring out the red flag and, with that, the race has been suspended. At that moment, Tony Arbolino was in first place, while Aron Canet and Fermín Aldeguer were second and third. Acosta was placed ninth. The Moto2 leader has been able to save the situation after starting from the back of the grid and he will have the first match point to become world champion next weekend in Thailand.

The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Izan Guevara has achieved his best result in Moto2 after completing a race that has been disputed in extreme weather conditions. At the circuit where he was crowned Moto3 World Champion last year, the Spanish has once again stood out. Despite the wind and rain, Guevara has been able to move up seventeen positions to finish sixth. With this result, Guevara leaves Phillip Island with a stronger determination to face the final part of the championship. His teammate Jake Dixon has not had the same luck. The British has crashed on the fourth lap, when he was in podium positions. The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider has undergone a check-up at the circuit's medical centre which has confirmed that he has no fractures in his right shoulder. In the next few hours, before the Thai Grand Prix, he will undergo an MRI scan on his shoulder to rule out any ligament injury.

6th Izan Guevara (1 lap): “This result helps us to improve our confidence. We started from the back of the grid and the race has been disputed in extreme conditions. We have been able to save the situation and take advantage of the opportunity. Wet races have never been my strong point, but we have made a step forward and we have achieved our best result in Moto2.”

Jake Dixon (DNF): “It has been a shame to end the race like that. I felt I had the strength to fight for the podium, but the conditions were extreme and I have crashed. I have pain in my shoulder right now. We have already checked that there is no fracture, but we will continue to do tests to rule out other injuries.”
