The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider arrives to Phillip Island in a totally different situation from 2022, but with the aim of fighting for big goals again
The Moto2 World Championship has the clearest dominator of the season, Pedro Acosta, who has seven wins in fifteen races. Only two riders can mathematically dispute him the title: Tony Arbolino, who is 65 points behind the Spanish, and Jake Dixon, third, 105 points off. With 125 points up for grabs, the question is not who will be champion, but when. Meanwhile, the intermediate category riders face a new challenge, the Australian Grand Prix, just a week after racing in Indonesia. There, in 2022, in his first visit to Phillip Island, Acosta took his fourth podium of the year and was only beaten by Alonso Lopez, who even had to serve a penalty. Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon completed the podium, but with no chance of fighting with his rivals. With these results, neither he nor Tony Arbolino, who could not finish the race, would be able to avoid Acosta from arriving to Thailand with the first world championship title chance.
Izan Guevara comes back to Australia a year after that sunny October morning when he touched the sky with the GASGAS Aspar Team and achieved the Moto3 World Championship title with an unappealable victory. Guevara returns to Phillip Island, a circuit where he stood out last year, and where he aspires to recover that spark he had. He has eight points thanks to his performances in Austria, India and Japan, but he wants more and this weekend he will fight again from the first free practice. This is also Jake Dixon’s aim, to start the weekend strongly from the first session and be prepared for everything on Sunday. In Indonesia it wasn't until qualifying that the British rider and his team were able to understand the challenge of the Mandalika track and worked in the direction that allowed them to almost fight for the podium in the race. With 172 points, Dixon has already surpassed the 168.5 points he achieved in 2022, his highest mark to date, but he continues to set no limits for himself.
Jake Dixon: “I really enjoyed Australia last year. I love the circuit and everything about it. We know we need to get the bike set-up ready for a good start of the weekend. I aim to get off to the right start on Friday and improve little by little to arrive well prepared for the race.”
Izan Guevara: “I have great memories of Phillip Island. To remember that I became World Champion there will help me to be more motivated. I have no doubt that we will get to fight with the best. Last year I really liked the circuit and I hope that it will be the same with the Moto2 bike.”
