God save King Dixon!

The British rider gets his first win in the intermediate category and moves into third place in the standings just before the summer break

Jake Dixon will always remember this Dutch Grand Prix. The British rider has taken his first Moto2 win today after a thrilling race at the ‘Cathedral of Speed’. The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider had already proved to be the strongest rider on the Assen track in practice and has ended a brilliant weekend with the first victory of his career. Yesterday he missed out on pole by just nine thousandths of a second, but today, the British has entered the race ready to make history. Dixon has always been at the front group, fighting first with Alonso López, and then with Ai Ogura, for the first place. Dixon has taken the lead with 10 laps to go, but after a problem with the gear change, he has lost two positions and has moved down to third. The British rider, who had finished third nine times in his world championship career, has not given up and, knowing that he had better pace than the rest, has managed to come back to the first position with only a couple of laps to go. Dixon has kept strong and has crossed the finish line in first position with a gap of more than a second over Ai Ogura, and more than four seconds over Pedro Acosta. With this result, Dixon goes into the summer break in the top 3 of the Moto2 category and with more confidence to face the next part of the season.

Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Izan Guevara has not been able to complete the Dutch Grand Prix race. Guevara has crashed with seven laps to go and has not been able to close the first half of the season as he would have liked. The Spanish was riding in similar pace to the other rookies, but has suffered a crash that has prevented him from scoring his first points of the year. Guevara now has five weeks off to prepare himself for the second part of the season and to come back stronger for the British Grand Prix.

Winner Jake Dixon: “I cannot even put into words how I feel. I had a dream to be here on the top step and I cannot believe it. It’s taken me a while to get here but I have a great team behind me and a great family supporting me. An amazing result. I’m struggling for words. When I got into the lead, I believe I could win. It was all chips-in; it was crash or win and today I won.”

Izan Guevara (DNF): “I had a great feeling here and started well from the grid with the goal to get as many positions as I could. My rhythm was decent; it could be better but compared to the other rookies around me it was quite OK and I was looking at points until the crash. I was trying to keep with the group ahead who were just pulling away. Anyway, we have five weeks to really work and come back in good shape for Silverstone.”
