The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider doesn't give up and, despite the difficulties, finishes just a tenth off the front row
The Australian Grand Prix will start tomorrow with Fermín Aldeguer at the front of the grid. The Spanish rider has once again been the fastest rider at Phillip Island and has taken his first pole position of the season. Aldeguer has kicked off the day breaking a track record that had been in his hands since last year and has arrived to qualifying as the favourite to achieve the pole position. The Spanish has not failed, he has beaten his own time again and tomorrow he will have many options for the win. Aron Canet, who is showing a strong pace at Phillip Island, and Alonso Lopez, who has finished more than six tenths off his teammate, have completed the top 3. Pedro Acosta has not been able to fight for pole position today against the speed of Aldeguer and will start from the second row, while Tony Arbolino, who has closed the day with the eighth fastest time, will begin from a row behind.
Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon has saved qualifying in Australia with a sixth position that allows him to start from the second row in an uncertain race that will begin an hour earlier than planned and for which an unfavourable weather situation is expected. The British rider and his technical team know that there is still margin to improve the set-up of the bike and they aim to find more grip on the rear to be able to fight for everything at one of Dixon's favourite circuits. His teammate Izan Guevara will start the Australian Grand Prix from 23rd place. The Spanish rider keeps missing out on a place in Q2 and will have to move up from the eighth row tomorrow. Despite not feeling completely comfortable with the bike, Guevara will be looking to complete another comeback and score points again.
6th Jake Dixon 1:32.679: “We've improved in some parts, but we still need to get a better set-up on the bike. I got the maximum out of what I had, but we need to find something else to be able to compete with the strongest riders. I think that if we can find a bit more rear grip, tomorrow we can have a good pace and complete a strong race.”
23rd Izan Guevara 1:33.848: “Today has been a difficult day. We have worked to improve the set-up of the bike, but we have not been able to do it. I have suffered a lot with the bumps and I'm not feeling comfortable at all. Tomorrow we'll start from the back, we'll try to set a good pace and fight for points.”
