The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has taken his second pole of the season in Motegi. His teammate Izan Guevara has achieved his best result of the year in qualifying and will start tomorrow from fifth place
The Japanese GP qualifying has been once again marked by rain, which has made track conditions difficult for the Moto2 riders. In these conditions, CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon has been the fastest and has taken his second pole position of the season. Q2 has started with a dry track, but with rain falling on Motegi. Therefore, getting a good time in the first minutes of the session has been the key. This is what the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider has done, setting a time of 1:52.693 on his first attempt. With this time, the British has taken the lead in the timesheets, a position he has not left. As Q2 has progressed, the rain has intensified, making track conditions worse. Most of the riders have returned to the garages and times have not been improved. Thus, Dixon has taken his first pole position in Motegi. Tomorrow, the British will fight to get back on the podium and take his third win of the year. Zonta van den Goorbergh, who has finished just six thousandths off pole after competing in Q1, will start from second position, while Aron Canet will start from third place.
CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara remains among the fastest at the Japanese GP and has achieved his best grid result so far this year. The Spanish, who has managed to get straight into Q2 after finishing yesterday with the fifth best time, has been very competitive on the damp track throughout the weekend. In qualifying, he has only completed one attempt, in which he has set a time of 1:53.116, a register with which he has ended four tenths off his teammate's pole and which will allow him to start tomorrow from fifth position on the grid.
1st Jake Dixon 1:52.693: “It has been crazy. The weather here changes every moment, one minute it is not raining and then, in the next minute, it is raining. Honestly, I knew that the first lap was going to be key. I have started to pass a few riders on the out lap, because it was starting to rain quite hard and I wanted to do a good first lap. The conditions were tricky, so we have had to take it calmly. Luckily, I have managed to do it. We have a great race tomorrow. We need to try to impose our pace and see what we can do. We do not know what the conditions will be like because the track dries super quickly, but it can quite easily go the opposite way.”
5th Izan Guevara 1:53.116 (+0.423): “I am happy. We have finally completed a qualifying session in good conditions. It has been crazy because when we have gone out it was raining and we have had to do the lap with our eyes closed. I needed to get a good grid result, we deserved it. We have worked really well throughout the weekend. The pace is there, although I have not ridden much today. Tomorrow we will bring out our full potential.”
