Inde GASGAS Aspar rider will start from third row in Thailand. Izan Guevara will do so from 17th after his first ever Moto2 Q2
Seven days after taking his first pole position of the year in Moto2, Fermín Aldeguer will repeat at the front of the grid tomorrow after beating Pedro Acosta in the final part of qualifying. On his penultimate lap, Aldeguer has improved Acosta's time by almost two tenths and tomorrow he will try to take back the victory he could have achieved in Australia. Therefore, Acosta will fight to become world champion from the second position on the grid. The Moto2 leader will try to take the front of the race in the early stages to put pressure on Tony Arbolino. The Italian will start from eighth and will have to leave everything on track if he wants to keep his chances in the championship fight for one more week. Albert Arenas will complete the front row of the Thai Grand Prix, his best grid position of the season, as he has finished third in qualifying
Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon will start the Thai GP from the third row of the grid after finishing ninth in Q2, a session that for the first time this season has had Izan Guevara among its participants. The British rider has ended up less than three tenths off the front row and is confident of being able to improve the bike's set-up to make a step forward in the race. Last year, Dixon started also from the third row of the grid in Thailand and finished a tenth off the podium in a race that was called off earlier than expected because of the rain. His teammate Izan Guevara has taken his best grid position of the season and will start from seventeenth. The Spanish rider has made it through his first Q2 in Moto2 after setting a time of 1:35.901 in Q1, a time that, he had repeated it in Q2, would have secured him the seventh place on the grid. Tomorrow he will start a little further back, but he will fight to get into the points and, why not, to finish in the top 10.
9th Jake Dixon 1:35.965 (+0.594): “We have not achieved the grid position we would have liked, but we will work hard this afternoon with the team to try to improve for tomorrow's race.”
17th Izan Guevara 1:36.229 (+0.858): “I'm very happy to have made it to Q2 for the first time this season and, although we could have got a better grid position, I'm satisfied. In Q1 we have set a great time that we have not been able to repeat in the second session. I know I have a good pace for tomorrow and I will fight to finish in the top 10 or top 15.”
