Dixon just 69 thousandths off pole

CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider will start from second position on the grid tomorrow in Indonesia

CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon is back on the front row of the grid after finishing just 69 thousandths off pole at the Indonesian GP. Aron Canet, Tony Arbolino and Fermín Aldeguer were the favourites in the fight for pole in Moto2 after being among the fastest in all the practice sessions. Canet has not failed and has been able to achieve a time of 1:33.434, a register that sets a new track record and his rivals have been unable to beat. Despite this, the fight for the top positions has been very close until the end and Jake Dixon has been a surprise guest to it. The British had not started the day in the best way, as in the last practice he had only been able to finish in thirteenth position after a crash. However, Dixon has been able to turn things around in qualifying. In his penultimate attempt in Q2, the British has set a time of 1:33.526 which has lifted him from sixteenth to second place. World Championship leader Ai Ogura has lowered this time to 1:33.504, but on his final lap Dixon has been one thousandth faster and has secured second place on the grid. Aldeguer and Arbolino have not managed to fight for the top positions and will start from fifth and seventh place, respectively. Tomorrow, Dixon hopes to be able to fight for his third victory of the year, although he knows that his rivals will not make it easy for him.

CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara will start the Indonesian GP from the seventh row of the grid. Guevara has finished the last practice with the fifteenth best time, just eighteen thousandths off the Q2 positions. As a result, he has had to compete in Q1, a session in which he has set the fifth best time, just eleven thousandths off the fourth, which has meant he has ended once again just off making it through to Q2. The Spanish will start tomorrow from nineteenth position and hopes to be able to come back to the points, as he did last week in Misano.

2nd Jake Dixon 1:33.503: “I am super happy because we have turned the weekend around in qualifying. We have to see what we can improve for tomorrow, because if we get a small improvement we can fight for victory. My rivals are really fast, but when we find something extra, we are always in the fight.”

19th Izan Guevara 1:34.168: “We didn’t deserve to be in Q1. The pace and speed we have is enough to have been in Q2, but in the last practice session I have made a mistake when I was in my best lap. Because of that mistake I have to compete in Q1 and, in that session, I had no grip. In addition, I also have made a mistake with which I have lost a couple of tenths. I am not happy because we deserve to be further up front. Tomorrow I will fight to recover positions, but it is very difficult starting from nineteenth place. I am confident of getting the points.”
