Inde GASGAS Aspar rider starts the weekend less than three tenths off the fastest; Izan Guevara just a few thousandths off provisional Q2 positions
Pedro Acosta wants to become Moto2 World Champion in Thailand and he has started the weekend as he needs to. The Spanish rider has arrived to Buriram ready to achieve his goal and he has started on the right foot by being fastest in the morning and in the afternoon as he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to win the title with three races to go. His main rival for the championship, Tony Arbolino, has finished tenth. If they repeat the same on Sunday in the race, the Spanish rider will be crowned champion. Marcos Ramírez and Fermín Aldeguer have completed today's top 3 after finishing just a few thousandths off Acosta's time.
Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon has had to deal with the Thailand's heat and humidity today, but also with the pain in his right shoulder after the crash he suffered in Australia. Despite this, the British has been able to finish the first day in Buriram in sixth place. Dixon has suffered a crash also today, in the first practice session, a crash that has not aggravated the pain he was already suffering in his shoulder, and, nevertheless, he has been able to set good lap times and finish the first day of action close to the strongest riders. His teammate Izan Guevara has just missed out again on the positions that give provisional access to Q2. The Spanish rider has ended up just 0.022 off top fourteen and tomorrow he will have another chance to improve his time and get into Q2, an objective that he has not been able to achieve during this season. Guevara and his technical team will try to find a better feeling in braking and corner entry.
6th Jake Dixon 1:36.283 (+0.298): “I didn't know if I was going to be able to race this weekend. I dislocated my shoulder last Sunday and I had a lot of pain. However, being able to ride today is a positive and I want to thank the medical staff for the way they are treating me. The first practice has been complicated. I have crashed and I have bumped my shoulder again, but it has not aggravated the pain. On the last exit I had a good rhythm. but after four or five laps, I was feeling a lot of pain. I'm grateful to be racing and tomorrow I'll keep giving my best.”
15th Izan Guevara 1:36.833 (+0.848): “We have finished the first day close to the strongest riders, although I'm struggling with the braking. We have ended just a few thousandths off the top 14, but tomorrow we will try to make progress to get into Q2.”
