Inde GASGAS Aspar rider was sixth at the start of the penultimate lap in a race in which Izan Guevara has not been able to score points
Pedro Acosta is getting closer to the Moto2 title after taking his seventh win of the year at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Spanish rider started from fourth, but on the first lap he was already battling with Aron Canet for the lead. After some overtakes between them, the World Championship leader has started to set his pace and has opened a gap that Canet has not been able to close. Finally, Acosta has crossed the finish line in first position with a difference of two seconds over Canet, who repeats on the Mandalika podium for the second year in a row. Fermín Aldeguer has completed an all-Spanish top 3, while Jake Dixon and Manu González have kept a nice battle in which the fourth and fifth places have been decided. With this result, Acosta has been on the podium in twelve of the fifteen races held so far and already has a 65-point lead over Tony Arbolino, a gap that could be insurmountable in Thailand, where Acosta could have his first match ball to become World Champion. To achieve it, the Spanish will need to get another good result at Phillip Island next weekend and hope that his rival can't score points.
Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon has fought until the end in the Indonesian Grand Prix to get a well-deserved fourth place. The British rider has stayed among the strongest riders for most of the race and, with two laps to go, he was sixth. However, he has taken advantage of Arbolino's mistake to take the fifth position and, with two corners to go, he has been able to overtake Manu Gonzalez and finish fourth. Dixon now has 13 more points and consolidates his third place in the overall standings, with an advantage of 28 points over his main pursuer. The British rider will try to come back stronger in Australia, where he aims to improve from the first practice to fight again for the victory. His teammate Izan Guevara has moved up six positions in Mandalika to finish 21st. The Spanish started the weekend strong, but after narrowly missing out on direct access to Q2, he has not found a good feeling with the bike again. Guevara will try to score points next week at Phillip Island, the circuit where he became Moto3 World Champion last year.
4th Jake Dixon (+9.082): “If you would have told me on Saturday morning that we could have fourth position then I would have taken it. The main objective now is to start well and continue through the weekend because we were on the backfoot here on Friday and Saturday. I don’t understand the bike well enough for the race to be able to fight for the podium, and we are only missing a little bit. The team and I did a great job to come back here. We need to be stronger at the beginning of the weekend to fight for wins again. Fourth was the next best thing today and I didn’t give up all the way.”
21st Izan Guevara (+36.857): “The weekend started well with some decent speed but I struggled to feel good on the bike and it was sliding around a lot. It was the same story in the race but I held on and tried to grab back some positions. We couldn’t score points but now we’ll look to Australia. I have good memories from last year. This is a tough moment but I hope I can find another step forwards in Phillip Island.”
