The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider closes the race two seconds off third position. Guevara back on points after finishing fourteenth
Somkiat Chantra has not given any option today at Motegi and has taken the victory in the Japanese Grand Prix. The Thai rider has achieved his first win of the season after a race in which he has left all the opposition behind, completing a perfect weekend. Chantra leaves Motegi after dominate all the practice sessions, take pole position with a new track record and get the win. The Thai rider has led the whole race and has crossed the finish line with a gap of more than a second over Ai Ogura, who repeats on the podium of his home Grand Prix for the second year in a row, and three seconds over Pedro Acosta, who consolidates his lead in the standings after closing the weekend in Japan with a third position. The Spanish rider has not had an easy start of the race and has lost some positions. However, Acosta has not given up and has been able to move up and get on the podium. With Tony Arbolino finishing eleventh, Acosta has now an advantage of 50 points with 150 to go.
Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon has missed out on the podium for the second year in a row at the Japanese Grand Prix. The British, who came from two difficult weekends for him, has finished fourth and is now 43 points behind the second place in the standings. Dixon will try to get even closer in Indonesia, where he achieved the first pole position of his career. His teammate Izan Guevara has scored points for the second weekend in a row. The Spanish rider, who has started from 19th on the grid, has moved up several positions to finish 14th at Motegi. Guevara has fought in a group with riders such as Tony Arbolino and Alonso López and leaves Japan with a good feeling. Guevara came to Japan with the aim of consolidate his step forward and he has achieved it after scoring two more points.
4th Jake Dixon (+5.065): “We have improved the set-up of the bike a lot during the weekend and I have been able to finish fourth after a great race. I couldn't get on the podium, but I have been close. I'm satisfied with the work we have done and the way I have ridden in the race. I'm happy with this fourth place because we came from two Grands Prix where we had suffered.”
14th Izan Guevara (+21.447): “We leave Japan with two more points. Today I have not had the same feelings because the track conditions have been different compared with the rest of the weekend. I feel good on the bike, we are progressing and we have to keep thinking positive.”
