Dixon back on the front row at Assen

The British rider, who has achieved his best grid position of the season, has missed out on pole position by just nine thousandths of a second

Alonso López has taken his second pole position of the season at Assen and returns to the front row after two Grands Prix. The Spanish rider was eleventh with just a few laps to go. However, Alonso has kept his best lap for the end of the session and has secured the first position on the grid. Jake Dixon, his main rival for third place in the overall standings, has finished behind him. After being the strongest rider during the weekend, he has missed out on pole position by just nine thousandths of a second. The front row is completed by Ai Ogura, the current runner-up in the category, who had not has a front row position yet this season.

Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon will repeat on the front row tomorrow at Assen, one of his favourite circuits in the World Championship. He will do it seven days after having started third in Germany, but also one year after having taken pole position here, at the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix. The British rider has achieved his best starting position of the season and will start tomorrow's race from second place, by a difference of nine thousandths of a second from first, after being unable to complete two of his final laps with a valid time due to the presence of yellow flags on the track because of crashes of other riders. His Inde GASGAS Aspar teammate Izan Guevara has kept up his progress today and will start tomorrow's race from the eighth row. The Spanish had set a time that would have allowed him to start from twenty-first position, but he has received a penalty for riding slow and disturbing another rider and has lost three places on the grid. Guevara has started the day improving considerably his time from yesterday in the last practice session and has ended up less than three tenths of a second off entering directly into Q2. In the first qualifying session he has been close again to fight for a better grid position, but in the end, he will start the Dutch Grand Prix from 24th place.

2nd Jake Dixon 1:36.247: “It has been a good qualifying session, although there have been a lot of yellow flags at the end of the session and it has been a bit frustrating. Nevertheless, we have done a great job. Obviously pole position would have been great, but starting second is very good. I feel confident on the bike and I think it's going to be a great race.”

24th Izan Guevara 1:37.407: “It has been a positive second day, although I think we could have done more in qualifying. We haven't improved in the fourth sector, we had done a lot better in the last practice, but in qualifying the temperature of the track has increased and I have not been able to repeat it. We have received a penalty which will make us start from behind. It's been a positive weekend and we have to keep working to make further steps forward. Tomorrow we will give everything to keep making progress.”
