The Inde GASGAS Aspar rider has finished less than two tenths off top five on his debut in India. Izan Guevara has equalled his best Friday of the season and has ended thirteenth
Tony Arbolino has been the fastest in the first practice sessions for the Moto2 riders in India. The Italian has opened the Grand Prix in style, starting as the quickest in the intermediate category. On his final lap, Arbolino has taken advantage of Inde GASGAS Aspar rider Jake Dixon's slipstream to set a time of 1:52.105. Only Pedro Acosta and Ai Ogura have been able to get close to the Italian, finishing 0.065 and 0.083 off. Arbolino has started slightly better than his title rival, Acosta, but everything can happen on this new track with changing conditions.
Inde GASGAS Aspar has completed a great opening day at the Indian Grand Prix with Jake Dixon close to the top five and Izan Guevara having one of his best days in the category. With just a few minutes to go, the British rider was outside the top fourteen, but in one of his last laps he has set a time of 1:52.642 and has finished seventh, half a second off the strongest and just two tenths off the best five riders. Dixon has closed the first day with good feelings at the Buddh International Circuit and will keep on working to improve his adaptation to the track. His Inde GASGAS Aspar teammate Izan Guevara has had one of the most positive days of the season. The Spanish rider has ended the morning session in thirteenth position and has been able to improve his lap time in the afternoon to stay in the same place at the end of the day, within the provisional positions that give access to Q2. The Spanish will try to keep working in this line to consolidate this step forward tomorrow.
7th Jake Dixon 1:52.642 (+0.537): “I have enjoyed riding here for the first time. I think we have to be happy with what we have done today. It has been a positive day, but we still need to keep working. It's going to be a physically tough race and we'll be ready for it.”
13th Izan Guevara 1:52.915 (+0.810): “I'm happy. We have finished the first day in provisional Q2 positions and that's positive. I have had some difficulties adapting to the track at the beginning, but little by little I have been feeling better and better. It's a peculiar track where you can enjoy but also suffer. The race will be difficult if the heat continues. We have to keep working on this line.”
