The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider finished eighth, while David Alonso scored his first points in Moto2
The Grand Prix of the Americas concluded on Sunday with another top 10 finish for Dani Holgado. The Spanish rider ended eighth in a wet race after the rain confirmed the weather forecast shortly before the start of the intermediate category race. Holgado made a great start from thirteenth position and overtook several rivals in the opening laps. The track conditions did not allow him to take too many risks in the early stages, but the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider kept his cool and managed to handle a new scenario correctly. As the track dried out Holgado tried to increase his pace to move up the standings, fighting for seventh position until the final metres. He finally finished eighth in the Grand Prix of the Americas, where Jake Dixon took his second consecutive win, with Tony Arbolino and Alonso López in second and third respectively.
David Alonso faced a very challenging race. After his best qualifying, the Moto2 rookie started from the second row of the grid. However, the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider did not have the same feeling as on Saturday, although he tried to adapt as best as possible despite losing several positions in the first laps. After the first half of the race, Alonso gave his best to make up positions in the standings and crossed the line in fourteenth position. The reigning Moto3 World Champion achieved his best result to date in Moto2 and scored his first points in the category after a weekend complicated by the constantly changing track conditions.
8th Dani Holgado (+32.685): “I had a great time, but it was a very tense race. In these conditions you can't make a single mistake. I'm proud of myself, of being concentrated and of how I managed the race: I tried to follow, sometimes I couldn't, sometimes I tried to catch them again... I had people behind me who were catching me and I still managed to keep calm. We've now had three consecutive top 10s, I'm very happy, but I still have the nagging feeling that today we could have got a top 5. I gave one hundred per cent.”
14th David Alonso (+43.139): “Today we had to race in the water. The start wasn't good, but I tried to find the good feeling I was having. We had changed the position on the bike for the dry and in the wet it helped me on the one hand, but on the other hand I couldn't stop the bike under braking. When the track dried up, I improved the feeling and I passed the guys in front of me. We'll keep working in Qatar.”
