Izan Guevara travels to Sepang with the aim of continuing to progress in Moto2 after matching his best result in the category in Thailand
There are only two GPs left until the chequered flag falls for the last time in Valencia; eighteen GPs have already gone by, and the intermediate category now heads to Malaysia for the last GP of the flyaway races, the first with its champion crowned. Ai Ogura sealed the Moto2 title after finishing second in the Thai GP last week, but there are still a few unknowns before the season ends, such as the name of the runner-up or the winner of the constructors’ title. Up to six riders still have a chance of finishing second in the standings, although there is a clear favourite: Aron Canet. The Spanish has shown that he is in great form, with five podiums in the last six races, two of them victories. Sergio García, Fermín Aldeguer, Manu González, Alonso López and Joe Roberts are the other riders who also have a chance of taking silver, but their options are more complicated, especially Aldeguer's, as he will miss the Malaysian GP due to injury.
CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara faces the Malaysian GP with great motivation. The Spanish finished sixth in Thailand, thus equalling the best result of his Moto2career. This weekend in Sepang the challenge is clear: to improve that sixth place. Guevara knows that to do so he must fight for a better position on the grid, something that has been his Achilles heel this season. The Spanish has been very strong in recent races, but starting from far back has prevented him from achieving a better result on Sundays. His teammate Jake Dixon has completed great performances in the past in Sepang, wherehe was on the podium in 2022 and in 2023 he finished in fifth position. The last few weekends have not been easy for the British, who has not been able to achieve the results he expected. At the Malaysian GP, the CFMOTO RCB Aspar Team rider will aim to regain his good feelings and be able to finish the season fighting for the top positions again.
Jake Dixon: “Let’s see what we can do in Malaysia. It is a track where I have been good at in the past, but now things are not going well. We need to reset and take the weekend easy.”
Izan Guevara: “Malaysia is a completely different track, it is very long. In addition, the temperatures will be very high. We are in great shape and we are going to give our all. Last year it was not easy because we had a heavy crash. Now we are coming with a different mentality.”
