Dani Holgado and David Alonso aim to deliver their best performance at Phillip Island
The CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar riders are starting a new chapter after a challenging finish to the Indonesian Grand Prix. Australia will welcome this weekend Dani Holgado and David Alonso this weekend, who are already working on the nineteenth round of the season with the aim of regaining their form and fighting for the top positions again. The crashes that both suffered in the early laps of the race came at a great moment, with Alonso in the top 5 and Holgado fighting for the podium. The progress they have made, especially in recent races, has made them the best rookies in the intermediate category. Holgado has a 56-point lead over his teammate and could mathematically clinch the Rookie of the Year title at Phillip Island. The Spanish rider's consistency and hard work have resulted in four podium finishes, two of them victories, and two pole positions in his first season in the intermediate category. Holgado already knows what it's like to be on the podium in Australia (he was second in 2024) and this time he wants to get back on track with good results. David Alonso is also showing very positive progress in this final stretch of 2025. The Colombian has started the last two races from the front row and, although pole position still eludes him, he already knows what it's like to win in Moto2. His last visit to the Australian circuit ended in victory, ahead of his current teammate, and this time he wants to take advantage of his experience on the track and everything he has learned this season to return to the top positions.
The race in Indonesia turned the Moto2 standings upside down. Diogo Moreira's victory significantly reduced the gap in the title fight as Manu González was disqualified after finishing in second place. This means that only nine points separate the two riders, so the final rounds of this season will be extremely exciting to see who takes the last world championship title to be decided in 2025. Aron Canet is also in the fight, in third place and 33 points behind. Barry Baltus and Jake Dixon also have a chance, although they are 43 and 59 points behind respectively. CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar rider Dani Holgado is sixth with 153 points and also has a mathematical chance, although it is very remote. David Alonso is twelfth with 97 points.
Dani Holgado: “This week I've tried to disconnect as much as possible after the crash in Indonesia. We have to focus on this weekend in Australia. If we continue working in the same way as we have been, I'm convinced that we'll be back fighting for the top positions.”
David Alonso: “I'm coming to Australia with the mindset of continuing to work on the details that will allow us to improve when it comes to acceleration. I'm not looking for a specific result, we just have to keep working on the bike. Phillip Island is a circuit where you don't brake and where you go through the corners with the throttle open, so it will be very good for me to practise the aspects that interest us. It's a very fast track, which already impressed me with Moto3, so imagine what it must be like with Moto2. The feeling of speed must be very high in the first few laps, as must the adrenaline. We'll be ready for all conditions."
